It's delicious, especially if you compare it to the other crapholes in the area. Virginia Beach is loaded with overpriced restaurants with terrible food that appeal to weary tourist who knows nothing about good food and is content with eating food that is subpar.
My wife and I come from a place with amazing restaurants (Cincinnati, Ohio #whodey) and we consider ourself foodies and Pelons is pretty good.
The "elote" corn on the cob is fantastic. It's corn on the cob cooked perfectly with a creamy lime sauce and a crumbly Mexican cheese, it's delicious and totally not even healthy at all. The sriracha corn is also delicious, it has a sweet and spicy flavor and seasoned with chile , it has a bite, but not overbearing at all.
The fish tacos are what they are famous for and they were really good. Thick pieces of deep fried white fish with cabbage, salsa and a killer Baja sauce (a zesty sour cream sauce). The carnitas is also delicious. My wife got the veggie tacos and they were surprisingly good.
Overall this place is a hit. We have been here two days in a row because it blows everyplace In the area out of the water (pun intended) and the price point is great.
The queso is good, not the best, but worth getting. The refried beans were also good, but again nothing to gawk at. Drink specials/ options are awesome. And the best thing is all their specials. $2 tacos and beers on Wednesday from 6-close and on Friday and Saturdays from 10pm-midnight.
If you want to avoid all the restaurants that suck in the area just do yourself a favor and plan to come here for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday because so far we have only found one other restaurant in the area worth...
Read moreI would rate this a zero but I physically can’t the food taste disgusting and plain I think I can stick with my morning star and that one vegan brain in conclusion this food is hot Pack of trash :) btw this is supposed to be a vegan Shrimp not a block of tofu I’d rather have my homed cooked meal:)
(Vegan rating) My son posted the review above because he was obviously upset about the meal (we were hungry). I was also very upset to pay $51 and not want the food (we threw away all of it) (2 order of shrimp tacos and quesadillas). I’m sorry, it was really nasty. I’ve tried vegan tacos from different places and they use temp, season it like they would regular shrimp and it taste like shrimp, or they buy the frozen vegan shrimp and jazz it up. The tofu used was very dry and bland block. There was very little “spicy sauce” and the sauce had no flavor. The tacos were stuff packed with cabbage with the tofu block hidden in the cabbage pile. I think if you’re going to charge people $16. 99 for tacos give them food worth the money. I practically paid $16.99 for cabbage on a tortilla. In my opinion, it’s hard to find vegan food and vegan food is very expensive (when packaged meat substitutes are used)I feel like people just want to give us a salad with bland food and say we should be happy because we’re vegan. I wish I could at least get 1/2 my money back. I feel like I flushed $50 down the toilet🥴. I appreciate that the owner reaching out to see what shrimp to use, shows they care. Buy vegan frozen shrimp and SEASON it up. Add some flavors...
Read moreThis was our favorite eating experience during our beach stay. The staff was helpful, food was delicious, and restaurant was family friendly. Highlights are detailed below.
Food: we ordered the fish and carne asada tacos, trio dip and chips, and a kids quesadilla. All of the items were hot and tasty. The guacamole was much better than expected. It had enough flavors to complement the smooth avocado taste without being overly salty or drowned in lemon juice. The salsa had a good balance between the sweetness of tomatoes and bite of vinegar. The queso was smooth and runny enough to make dipping the thin and crispy tortilla chips possible. We were pleasantly surprised with the taste profile of both the fish and carne asada tacos. The steak was tender and well marinated. It was good in the tacos and as escaped meat morsels on the plate. The fish tacos were also good. They were not drenched in a mayo heavy slaw, a technique for hiding bad fish. Instead, the delicious fish worked with the slaw to create an enjoyable eating experience.
Family: We had two small kids and were set up with a high chair and booster seat. The music playing through the speakers was loud enough to listen too but enabled tabletop conversation. The bathrooms were clean. I did not notice a changing table but that could be my oversight.
We would eat here again. The location is great for anyone staying on the north end. It is definitely walkable. If you do need to drive, the parking lot has enough spots. This was a great eating experience. Hats off to the...
