In the mood for ice cream after walking along the marina. We stumbled upon the closest spot but their line was out of the door. We looked via Google Maps for another dessert spot and was directed here. What a fantastic find. The gelato is amazing delicious. I enjoyed my Oreo flavor. My friend got a double flavor and enjoyed hers. We plan to bring our kids back to enjoy the water fountains one evening and try the pizza too. This is definitely a cool place to venture. I believe DC offers free parking on Sunday’s. Parking was pretty plentiful on this Sunday evening. The bathrooms leave everything to be desired - no tissue, just a whole mess for the women’s anyway. But I can’t fault the Gelato venue for this as they share a space with the Pizza vendor and the Sushi vendor. There is ample seating outside and a lovely rooftop space for pictures. The Navy Yard marina is just three blocks away.

I asked for the cherry Gelato (they had it labeled incorrectly as the purple Gelato) she hands me the Gelato and I noticed it wasn't the (purple) one I asked for so she explains the one I asked for was a different flavor and it's labeled incorrectly then proceeds to give me the one I wanted. Get to the register and she charges me for their mistake/ mislabeling on their part. I explain to her that's not my fault and that's not the one I wanted. She takes the Gelato off my bill then takes the Gelato and throws it away, all with an attitude. I didn't get an apology for their mishap, a thank you for my business/ have a nice day or anything. I'm assuming this lady was the manager but she was RUDE!!! And 1 scoop of Gelato for $6 is overpriced. I won't return.
I had the lemon cookie Gelato and it was nasty and I love anything lemon flavored. Very...
Read moreVery surprised it took me the better part of 5 months of living in Navy Yard to try this place, especially as an Ice Cream and Gelato lover. Altani is a quaint little gelato shop connected to Wiseguy pizza, a few blocks up from the Navy Yard pier. Unassuming, with no flashy signs or pictures, they offer a great variety of gelato flavors. Everything from a decadent Italian cookie to a slightly tart lemon sorbet, they offer tastings of anything you want to try before you purchase a cup for yourself (small is 2 flavors, regular is 3). You can also get a fresh waffle cone on top (which they will dip in a liquid chocolate upon request). Having only tried 4 flavors so far, I can definitely say I will be back to...
