This is a solid place on the whole. There are good aspects and some that leave a little something to be desired. That being said the following narrative will elaborate on the reason for the overall rating.
Meat & Chicken - 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, the cook on the meat and chicken is on point, it's juicy and fully cooked, the prep area is clean and visible by customers. Admittedly not the best seasoning (mild) but understandable given the wide range of customers. Personally for meat/chicken in shawarma and gyro dishes I'd expect a bit more spicing, but it's juicy, not dry and cooked well.
Location - 3.5 ⭐⭐⭐✨, at the edge of the Georgetown shopping area it's a reasonable geographic location, accessibility to getting there is good, not very accessible for those with mobility/accessibility needs. Also, being located in a DC residential area parking is a lottery or a distance away.
Hours - 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, the extended evening hours are everything. This makes it a great place to grab a bite after 10pm when out for a show at the Kennedy Center, after classes for students and after an extended happy hour or business meeting.
Seating - 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐, there are generally a couple tables and several chairs outside for patrons to eat at and when open the upstairs seating is quite ample, but due to the staircase it's not easy to assess resulting in the tidiness being dependent on patrons to care enough to pick up after themselves (I believe everyone should be courteous).
Ordering Experience (IRL) - 3 ⭐⭐⭐. As with each prior visit the line is long and new patrons confused those waiting for pickup with folks they thought were in line to order. The staff is pleasant and do what they can to process orders and prepare the food given the right space. When ordering, you need to be prepared to find a space to stand after ordering to avoid being run into. Perhaps a redesign of the queue area would be helpful.
Beverages - 3 ⭐⭐⭐, there beverage selection is small and way overpriced. Honestly, I would've bought something to drink during each of my visits just to have while waiting if it wasn't for the cost (even for the area). Don't get me wrong I expect higher prices for packaged beverages, but this is a bit much for me to justify, so alas I don't personally get beverages here.
Food - 3 ⭐⭐⭐, so I will balance my critique here as there are pros and cons. Pros: juicy well prepared proteins (prepared on the rotating cooker or on the stovetop depending on the item ordered). Available hot and late at night. Cons: Flavor. So for this the issue for me are the shawarma items, both the chicken and beef (whether platter or sandwiches) do not include pretty much any of pickled items and the toma (garlic sauce) has no taste. While I agree and support sales of pickles and extra garlic sauce, I do expect that the garlic sauce has taste. The lack of flavor completely ruins the...
Read moreSorry for such a long review, but all of this comes from my heart so here we go: George’s King of Falafel is the best place ever. It is not just the best restaurant, it is the best establishment in existence. Nothing else even comes close. From the moment you walk in, you can feel that this place is different. There is something special here, something greater than words can capture, and every visit only confirms what I already know: George’s King of Falafel is perfection. The food is beyond incredible. The falafel is absolute mastery, golden and crisp on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside, made with a level of care that is unmatched anywhere in the world. The shawarma is cooked to perfection, juicy, savory, and seasoned in a way that makes every bite unforgettable. The hummus is so smooth and rich that it feels almost otherworldly, the kind of dish you could eat every day and still crave more. The pita is warm and soft, freshly made and always perfect. Every platter, every wrap, every bite of every dish on the menu is flawless. You do not just eat here, you experience what food is meant to be at the highest level. Beyond the food, the atmosphere is filled with warmth and care. The people here are genuine, welcoming, and kind. Every time you step inside you are treated with respect and hospitality that makes you feel at home. It is a place where you are not only served but valued, a place where the spirit of community is alive in every interaction. That is what makes George’s more than just a restaurant. It is the greatest place ever created.
And here is the truth: anyone who denies this is simply wrong. If you come here and do not leave with five stars in your mind and in your heart, then you are ignoring reality. If you cannot see the greatness of this place, you need to reevaluate your life. To give George’s King of Falafel anything less than perfection is not only unfair, it is just wrong in every way shape and form. This place has earned and deserves nothing less than full recognition as the best there is.
I will say this without hesitation. George’s King of Falafel is not just a place I enjoy. It is a place I love, a place that has set the standard for what greatness looks like. There is no higher recommendation I could possibly give. Five stars will never be enough, but since five is the maximum, George’s King of Falafel gets every one of them without question. This is, and always will be, the...
Read moreDuring a recent visit to the falafel store in DC, my friends and I tried out various dishes on their menu, including the falafel sandwich, chicken shawarma, beef shawarma, and the steak and cheese meal. While the overall experience was just average, there were some hits and misses in terms of taste and quality.
On the positive side, the steak and cheese sandwich stood out as the most enjoyable item we ordered. The combination of flavors and tender meat made it a satisfying choice. However, the disappointments began with the fries. They were lacking freshness and tasted quite dull. The lack of crunchiness further added to our disappointment.
The falafel sandwich was a letdown as well, as it turned out to be dry and tasteless. The essence of a good falafel lies in its texture and a burst of flavors, both of which were missing in this particular dish. It failed to live up to our expectations.
Moving on to the shawarmas, the beef shawarma had a peculiar twist with a hint of Indian spice. While this might appeal to some, it wasn't to our taste preferences, making it just mediocre. However, the chicken shawarma was the biggest disappointment of all. It was not only dry but also lacked any memorable flavor. It felt like an afterthought rather than a well-prepared dish.
Given the hit-and-miss nature of our visit, we might consider trying the falafel store again in the future, but for now, we cannot wholeheartedly recommend it to others seeking an exceptional falafel experience. With some improvements and attention to quality, this place could elevate its offerings and create a more memorable...
