After seeing an ad for Oaxaca Restaurant in the recent Granbury NOW Magazine, my husband and I decided to try it. Every Sunday we like to take a short road trip and generally eat a meal out before heading home. We like to try new restaurants (new to us) and we both love Mexican food so today Oaxaca was our choice. The exterior of the restaurant is beautifully decorated and looks to be a new building but I was told Oaxaca was previously a couple different restaurants. The interior is clean, modern and beautiful. Payten greeted us warmly as we entered and immediately seated us. Chips and salsa and an avocado based sauce were brought. Everything was delicious. We generally rate a Mexican restaurant by their salsa and we'd give Oaxaca an A. Reading an earlier review by Jax Baker, I don't understand what he's talking about when he described the salsa here. In view of the fact that almost everyone who has visited this restaurant has given it rave reviews, I would suggest you accept the most appropriate compliments by the majority of people who have eaten here as a good representation of the quality of the food being served. I had the Steak Ranchero and it was outstanding. My husband ordered the Mexican Omelet. Payten visited us several times while we were eating to make sure we didn't need anything else. Since it was about 11 Sunday morning, we did not order from the bar but the drink selections they offer sound delicious. I do not hesitate to give this restaurant a 5 star rating and we'll definitely be back. I don't have any complaints about the prices on the menu either. Can't wait to bring family here when they visit us in Granbury. The Chef came by our table to inquire about our meal. I like that. It shows care and concern and a commitment to the customer. Make sure you try Oaxaca the next time you're looking for a delicious meal. You won't be ...
Read moreWe were in the area and decided to give this place a try. It's nice inside, decent atmosphere, it looks fairly new or remodeled. The music wasnt my type of Mexican music but that's just a preference thing. The one thing I didn't like about the atmosphere was that we encountered alot of gnat/flies. It wasnt to the point that we couldn't eat but it seemed like every few minutes we were swatting gnats. Our server, didn't get his name, was ok. He addressed us promptly, maybe he could have been a bit more sociable. He wasn't rude but didn't seem like he was willing to earn his tip. He did a basic job, nothing special, bare minimum. Wife ordered a sangria swirl. Very strong. I liked it but she said it was too strong. Chips were ok. There were 2 types of salsa. I wasn't impressed with either one. My wife liked the green salsa. My wife ordered the Enchiladas de crema (sour cream chicken enchiladas).those were very good. Kudos. The rice was fine but the charro beans were very plain. She only took one spoon of hers, I finished mine but agreed with her, just beans in juice, no cilantro or onions or tomato. I ordered chicken mole. Their are countless variations of mole recipes. This one was decent. I've definitely had better but also had worse. The presentation was decent as well. I asked my wife what her grade on scale of one to 10 she said a 3. I give them a 5 maybe 6. Here is what I think they need to focus on... The beans, I make better charro beans. The salsa. Alot of people, myself included, judge by the chips and salsa. The salsa needed more flavor. Get rid of the fruit flies/gnats. Those are things that stick out and kept them from a...
Read moreMost times we have come here, we have the pleasure of having Marcus and he is AMAZING. He's kind and quick, and isn't overbearing. He is very knowledgeable about the entire menu, is always willing to provide suggestions, and our orders always come out perfect. The following does not involve anyone except the kitchen staff. Tonight, we came in a little before 9 (they were to close at 930 and we felt bad but we were exhausted from a long day and starving!!) The staff at the front and Marcus never once made us feel like a burden. However, the kitchen staff need to be reminded that they are in public eye. I happened to look up as our meal ticket came out of the machine and one cook was visibly irritated when it came out, and then him and two others proceeded to stare at my husband and I nearly the entire time we ate. I GET it. We are typically sticklers about not coming in before closing, because we know everyone has worked hard and wants to go home, but we also asked the front of house staff if we were too late, as a courtesy, when we arrived, and they said no, not at all. Again, it wasn't quite past 9. Close, but not quite. We will continue to come here to eat because it's absolutely worthwhile, however the kitchen staff needs to not make people feel...
