This is a family owned and operated cozy Indian restaurant. They serve authentic Indian food which means it's will be a little different than many other Indian food places that put an American twist in the cooking or use canned generic ingredients. The people cooking the food are from India and learned to cook by being raised in India. I tried a myriad of dishes and all of them were very flavorful with often over 10 different spices in one dish. I was extremely pleased with both the variety and amiable flavors. They were able to accommodate my vegan preference very well by omitting cheeses, ghee and meat without sacrificing flavor in the dish.
Spices: I asked about how they source their spices and they get some straight from India others from Whole Foods in Phoenix. They are particular about getting fresh spices from higher quality sources. I can taste the difference. Oh have eaten at many Indian food places and haven't had such an enjoyable flavor experience.
Menu: They get a new menu daily which gives the opportunity to have a new experience and try new styles. Having a menu change frequently also usually means there are less items on the menu, so you won't find the "common" options like Chicken Tikka Masala. In fact, in you'll have a more exciting and unique experience.
Amenities: The bathroom was clean and smelled good. They have Indian entertainment on a large TV screen in the middle of the room. They have old cameras and radios on a shelf around the room which brings together the town's historic feel to the restaurant. One wall is painted yellow and had pictures of major Indian celebrations...
Read moreThis place is fantastic, and we will be going back as soon as we come through Williams again. What a great addition to Williams (and to the I40 corridor). We travel from Colorado to CA 4 times a year and are always looking for that stopping place for dinner. We usually stop in Flagstaff but decided to try Williams and were so excited to find this place. It’s a basic restaurant with simple tables and chairs, hard word floors and an eclectic old electronics decor like old Kodak cameras and radios, etc. But it’s an Indian restaurant serving about 6 different dishes, depending on what’s made that day. The night we were there they had palak paneer, pav bhaji and a paneer masala and meat dishes include Lamb Korma, a chicken dish and a shrimp dish. We had Lamb and palak paneer and they were both outstanding. The lamb is flavorful lamb, and it was moist and flavorful. The palak paneer is a blended greens with tender paneer. The dishes are mild but if, like us, you would like more heat, ask for Mirch (or chile) they make their own and it adds a nice heat to the dish. The naan were quite a nice surprise because there does not appear to be a tandoor anywhere on site but they were nicely blackened, buttery and crispy tender. The food is served with big bowls of rice. We ate almost our entire meal. They have sodas and lassi to drink. But you can help yourself to water at the table by the door. Food comes in cardboard bowls with plastic silverware. So don’t expect fancy decor, but the staff is super friendly and the...
Read moreWhat an awesome find after a long, cold drive on Route 66/ Hwy 40! This place is amazing. It is an intersection of gourmet fine cuisine, homey diner, and inexpensive takeout. The offerings change daily, along theme lines. One chicken entree, one lentil vegan entree, one vegetable (other than lentil) entree, etc. There is no telling what the selections on a given day will be. But that is the beauty! This is true artistry of food, something that is nearly impossible to find today (at least at a people’s price). The spices are fresh and complex, and clearly woven into the flavors of the dish by hands knowledgeable in their history and usage. The bread was fresh and amazing. Everything complements everything else perfectly. Our travel party included multiple youth and an elder. All were very happy. Sudipto is the elegant creative genius proprietor. He is like maître d', chef, busboy and waiter in one - and he does an amazing job! He clearly takes great pride in both food and service, and is quite a perfectionist (in a good way). Even though you are eating off of a paper plate, it feels like you are being served in a fine restaurant. You will also get background on the dish (note: do not say “curry”, as we quickly learned that overuse of this term was a colonial imposition by the British), and sense the passion and artistry that went into it. Best Highway 66 stop we found for many...
