Treated my family to a weekend in Williams for a trip on the Polar Express! We had two rooms. This hotel is lovely! Brand new, clean, modern, comfortable rooms. I was greeted as a club member upon check-in and appreciated the recognition. The beds were very comfortable with plenty of pillows and the heater worked almost too well. Rooms have a microwave and refrigerator. They have cable TV which provided family channels such as Disney Junior and Hallmark. Note there are only showers and no bathtubs. Rooms and hotel are clean, clean, clean.
The daily breakfast was amazing! From the egg omelets and sausage, to having fresh pancakes at the push of a button. Hot cinnamon rolls, fruits, cereal, yogurts, bagels, and fresh hot coffee. Kudos to the kitchen staff for keeping all items replenished with a smile. They even gave us a 5 min warning so we could get what we wanted before they closed. We also appreciated that on weekends they extend the breakfast hours to 10am. The hotel location is in close proximity to the Grand Canyon Railway (drive time 2 min), but I wouldn’t recommend walking it in the snow or cold weather. There is a Safeway, Dollar General, and Circle K close by on Route 66. There are many restaurants in Downtown Williams on Historic Route 66.
We woke up the next day to a snow covered Winter Wonderland. The hotel provided windshield scrapers and brushes for our convenience. Unfortunately, there was one staff member who kept scolding the kids if they tracked snow in and was mumbling under her breath complaining while she mopped up the wet floor. There was an injury incident with my grandson that we addressed with this staff member, however, they only responded by defending themselves and then promptly posting signs for us to watch our children; that they were not responsible for injuries. This issue will be addressed separately with the corporate office, but we will not let this one “bad apple” staff member mar our rating of this hotel. All other staff were very courteous, cordial and had a great attitude.
We will definitely stay here again and recommend it to our friends and family. Merry Christmas to the Holiday Inn Express Staff...
Read moreWe stayed here as a base hotel for driving to Grand Canyon/Petrified Forest/Red Rock/Sedona. Parking is free. They have luggage carts by the front doors to use to bring in all your luggage to your room. For COVID, there are only signs that say they require guests without vaccinations to wear masks. However, they do not ask for vaccination documentation. So, most guest and hotel workers are not wearing masks.
We got there before our check in time and the front desk clerk checked to see if our room was ready. Pleasantly it was ready and we could check in (and she apologized that the housekeeper carts were still in the hallway..which were we fine with). Our room was clean. You can tell that the bathrooms were remodeled (although it was a bit odd that they kept the old shower soap dish... they do supply those refillable shampoo, conditioner, shower gel bottles). There's a coffee maker, microwave and small fridge. They have DirecTV cable. The hotel has a fitness room and swimming pool. The swimming pool with jacuzzi was a plus... the kids loved it. The jacuzzi looks like its dirty (...but we weren't sure if it looks like that because the blue paint was coming off).
Another plus was that the free breakfast had buffet style hot and cold options. Hot options - eggs, omelets, sausage links and sausage patties. (I wish there was bacon..but sadly that was never an option). They had a cool pancake maker that makes fresh pancakes. Kids loved watching it being made. They also had muffins, fruits (banana, orange, apples), cereal, oatmeal, bread, bagels, yogurt, hard boiled eggs milk. They had decaf and regular coffee (although my husband said the coffee wasn't filtered well; I wish there was tea and hot cocoa offered but they didnt have it). They also had juice dispenser (apple and cranberry).
I'd definitely recommend. The hotel is also close to the Grand Canyon Brewing Restaurant and historic Williams (which is very cute to check out and their...
Read moreWe booked a suite on the IHG app. At first it appeared to be a newer hotel with updated rooms. After check in, I went to the first room and the pull out sofa was ripped up. I went down to the front desk and told them the issue and asked if they had another suite available. I was told that all of their pull out beds had issues and were on backorder and that a rough group of guests had caused issues with them. We went to our new suite and pulled out the bed and there was a huge diarrhea stain on the mattress. At this point, I let front desk know and that we should only be charged for a two queen beds because we can’t sleep on that. Then after 20 minutes in bed my family all pops up and is itchy. I had bites on my legs and quickly realized the beds had bed bugs! We all put on our clothes so we wouldn’t be bit anymore. I even found live crawling bugs on the sheets. We checked out early. I told the morning crew the issues and they said they couldn’t do much because the GM wasn’t on duty. They tried to call the GM but she did not answer. It was Saturday morning and I was told she didn’t work weekends which I thought was extremely strange since she works in hospitality. Never heard of not having a manager on duty for a weekend. The poor front desk guys were scared to even give me the rate for a queen room because the GM would yell at them. All the front desk workers were nice but they had zero ability to make things right and all seemed scared of the GM. Honestly, this Holiday Inn Express hurt the brand’s name. I no longer think of Holiday Inns as clean. I had to keep all my laundry suitcases, etc in the garage until I could launder and spray everything down so I wouldn’t get bed bugs at home. These damaged suites should not be reserved if the pull outs don't work, are stained or ripped. I stay at a lot of Holiday Inn Express locations and I will think twice from now on....
