I am staying in Hoi An for 1 month, I came here at least 7 times and on my last visit the store was busy, I was talking with my friend as I went to pay and gave the lady who knew me a 200,000 bill. I know it was as I ALWAYS look at the money I give to avoid issues and only had 2x200K and 1x50K bills in my pocket, the lady than asked me if I had smaller bill, i said no. She said give me 50,000 more which I did expecting a rounded change. She proceeded to give me change of 60K and made a point to say that she did not put the bill away into the drawer but left it on top of the counter and it was only 100K I gave her. I did not want to make an issue and be rude but this was my first time getting scammed and by people I got to know over the 2 weeks I went there. I left feeling depressed after leaving that this lady who knew me felt free to rip me off taking advantage of the store being busy and me talking to my friend. Not a massive amount but still the principal of it, doing this to a customer. Although the banh mi are good I wont be returning again and advise you to pay in small bills or go to another shop (plenty of them) that wont treat you like this, it really ruined my day and I felt the bad side of an otherwise kind people.
I need to edit from the owners reply and lies, no one gave me any refund or talked to me after this happened as I would not return to this store after being cheated. Like i said it was not massive amount of money but the principal. But lying that you gave me back money and taught me is totally false and lie to cover over this deception. This was not a mistake on her part the way she held the small note on the counter telling me she did not put it away! You are making it worse for yourself and I will tell the truth to warn others of...
Read moreStopped by Phi Banh Mi on a motorbike, it’s a small street-side stall, easy to access, though the road’s a bit tight if you’re coming by car (still fits two, just a heads-up).
I ordered the "Traditional Vietnamese" Banh Mi for takeaway, and honestly? It was my first Banh Mi in Hoi An, and still one of the best I had during the trip. Packed with pork, pork rolls, pate, fresh herbs, cucumber, and shredded papaya-carrot. The balance of flavor was spot on. Nothing overpowering, just solid, tasty layers working together.
The bread is grilled on charcoal, giving it a warm, crisp bite. I did hesitate a bit with the pate, knowing it’s made from liver, but it turned out so good. No strong liver taste at all once it’s mixed with everything else. It just blends in deliciously.
Best part? It’s only VND 25k! Plenty of filling, price clearly listed, and the service was fast. No guessing, no tourist markup.
Didn’t eat in, but you can dine in if you want to. Simple stall, great food,...
Read moreOwner and namesake of Phi Banh Mi, Phi, was very cheerful and helpful! The straps on our knock off duffel broke and he offered to help fix it. But since it was a knock off, we weren’t really fussed about it. Instead, we had delicious banh mi (no. 2 egg, no cilantro, not spicy and no. 8 chicken with spice) and good, fun chats. The spicy sauce is made in house. Super delicious and filling!
Phi is a jokester and likes to have a good time. His son Khoa is sweet. Their pet iguana, Danny, is an escape artist. When the restaurant is slow, Danny is free to roam because Phi or Khoa can keep an eye on him. But when the restaurant gets busy, Danny likes to run into the busy street. I watched Danny nearly hurl himself in front of a motorbike before Phi swooped him up and tucked him back into his crate for safety. Pet iguanas can be...
