Kampa as you may not know it: The oldest mention of Kampa can be found in 1169 in the charter of the neighboring church of Our Lady Under the Chain. Already at the beginning of the 16th century gardens were established by the island´s water mills. The name Kampa appears only in the second half of the 18th century and its origin is unclear - perhaps it is derived from the Latin word campus (field). The island grew to a height mainly due to natural floods, but also to artificial landfills, especially after the great fire of the Lesser Town and Hradčany in 1541. According to the travel portal VirtualTourist, Kampa is the second most beautiful city island in the world. Beautiful massive plane tree near Werich Villa and Liechtenstein Palace has a height of 34 meters and a circumference of almost 490 cm. Its estimated age is 200 years.

Krásný mohutný platan poblíž Werichovy vily a Lichtenštejnského paláce má výšku 34 metrů a obvod téměř 490 cm.

S dekou i bez deky. Pár bezdomáčů zpestřuje to leháro komentáři k výstavním kusům psům a pejskům, co sem rodinky vodí.

One of the legendary public parks in Prague with a flair of ab 'alternative spot' for artists, hipsters, and 'independents' - both locals and visitors. Very open-minded and cosmopolitan. Definitely not a place for fans of the incumbent president of the country (Zeman) or oligarch prime minister (Babis). In a close proximity of the Charles Bridge, it offers an array of catering options, bars, cafes, gorgeous views of the classic picturesque Prague, tons of spots to sit and stare or enjoy a book. Also the site of the already legendary private Kampa Modern Art gallery with a publically accessible mechanical installation of pissing men by the country's enfant terrible David Černý. A favorite place for dog lovers and...

Interesting and generally nice park this. I have marked it down a star (perhaps harshly I'll admit) because of the number of puddles present at the periphery of the pavements through here. These were treacherous and I got my shoes a little bit wet a couple of times which I didnt enjoy. I feel with better maintenance/design/planning this should not be an issue. I've certainly been in parks where it hasn't been and don't see why this one should be any different. There is a nice restaurant in this park, had brunch/lunch there which was good. Also quite close to city centre and some good places.

Huge complex "island" area with many historic sight-seeings, museum, hotels, restaurants, cafés, amazing riverbank view, cute park, yellow penguins, art gallery Kampa,, Lennon wall, small river Čertovka known from Holywood movies. Expect no cheap places, although the prices are worth the location. You can also just stroll from Smíchov to Charles Bridge through Kampa.
