We were very impressed. It's a 400 year old building so it has a certain cosy, homey, old world feel without any fancy bling. The first thing that we noticed is how quiet it was even though it was close to all the action. It's on a looped street with practically no traffic and backs onto a channel of the river...more on that in a moment. We had a 2 room suite, very large and comfortable. Fridge stopped working but it was replaced while were out...very attentive hosts. The breakfast was very substantial BUT it only runs from 8:30 to 10:30 so that's a bit late if you want to get to any sites when they open (usually 9). As a result, it can get busy at 8:30 which can overwhelm the kitchen...you may end up waiting for eggs for example. But if you aren't in a rush, it's fine. Now about that river channel. This is their secret weapon but they haven't capitalized on it. Down through the narrow garden sits a patio with some old chairs and dusty table overlooking the babbling river and huge park on the other side. The landscape designer in me was going crazy with what they have here... new see through railings (currently brick, blocks some view), new furniture, some tile on the floor, some lighting. OMG! We swept and cleaned it up a bit and spent a couple evenings down here with wine listening to the faint music from the park and the birds. Glorious. There's a restaurant next door that charges lotsa money to sit on the same riverbank and you get it included in your stay. Will definitely go back there if in Prague again. (oh, pay attention to your arrival time...I didn't read the fine print...check in closes at 7 so you need to make arrangements if you're arriving later, they graciously accommodated...
Read moreThe room price I paid must reflect the location (I guess), because otherwise, the price was not justified by what is supplied. While undoubtably the location is brilliant being in the Mala Strana just a short walk from the river, The Charles Bridge and a tram line, with easy access to restaurants & convenience shops, I suspect better is available in the same area. ||||The pension is tucked away in a quiet corner on a narrow cobbled street away from traffic, with no obvious views. They arranged a very efficient taxi from the airport and it would have been very hard to find otherwise. The staff were pleasant though understanding of English was limited at times; breakfast was good and as expected, but breakfast room too small for the numbers of residents all at once. WiFi really only worked in close vicinity of the office lobby & breakfast room. The rooms were adequate but dated and rather down at heel and furnishings were a bit ad hoc and looked second hand. The TV was a small old wall mounted tube set but had international channels. I could see through my bath towels and the double bed was made with two single sheets arranged crosswise ! The pillows were so soft as to be almost no use, and the only bedding supplied was a quilt so heavy and hot it needed two arms to lift it. My request for a blanket was not met, so my nights were spent either getting chilled or cooked.||||I was not unhappy at Pension Dientzenhofer, but felt it was overpriced for what was supplied. Some money needs to be spent on this place in...
Read moreTo be honest when we arrived and our king comfort room turned out to be a converted loft space and rather small I was disappointed. There was no TV as advertised although that wasn't a problem and the wardrobe couldn't be used as it was too rickety. The small fridge was in the bathroom with drinks in and the shower had no hand attachment. This is the reason for only four stars.||However the host was very friendly, beer was cheap and the breakfast on the whole was good value and depending on when you arrived downstairs you could get bacon eggs, sausages and the usual breakfast items which was always topped up.||It's the equivalent of an old listed building and you have to bear in mind that as such they are restricted to what they can do with regards to floors and structure of the property. ||The room was clean and the bathroom looked recently refurbished. The hairdryer was hidden behind the mirror in a small cupboard but worked fine. The beds were very comfortable. ||Location was five minutes from Charles Bridge and in a quiet area with local restaurants very close. When you actually found your way in. (push door buzzer and wait) you not only get your room key but a gate key so you feel quite encapsulated and away from the throng.||The owner always asked if there was anything he could do and even let us try some locay brewed beer free of charge. ||I would recommend as a quirky stay that was...
