David Černý's "Man Hanging Out" statue depicts the famous psychologist Sigmund Freud hanging above an alley in Prague, making for a striking and provocative sight. Situated in the Old Town, about 10 meters high, Freud is seen gripping a horizontal beam with one hand, appearing as if he might fall at any moment. This artwork not only surprises but also invites contemplation about its underlying meaning. Many tourists and locals are initially shocked by the statue's realistic appearance, often mistaking it for a real person. Its location is quite inconspicuous, and without looking up, it's easy to miss. This is part of Černý's unique approach; he frequently places his installations in unexpected locations, allowing people to stumble upon art in their everyday lives. This statue has become a minor attraction in Prague, with many visitors specifically seeking out this hidden surprise. It's recommended to bring a camera, as this unusual statue makes for a memorable photo. Additionally, exploring the surrounding streets and alleys can offer a deeper sense of Prague's unique historical atmosphere.

In the narrow streets of Prague’s historic center, if you look up, you might be in for a surprise: Sigmund Freud hanging by one hand from a metal beam. This sculpture, created by the provocative Czech artist David Černý in 1997, not only plays with the perception of passersby but also sparks a deep reflection on human uncertainty and the fear of change. Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, becomes a symbol of an internal struggle: to hold on or to let go? His suspended figure represents existential doubt and the fragility of the human mind. The sculpture blends seamlessly into the urban landscape, surprising those who stumble upon it and provoking questions beyond the obvious. Provocative, philosophical, and visually striking, Man Hanging Out is one of those unique details of Prague that turn a simple stroll into a memorable experience. A must-see for lovers of contemporary art and those who appreciate works with a touch of irony and depth.

You have walked by this already and not even noticed “DANGLING ABOVE ONE OF THE cobblestone streets in Prague’s Old Town is a statue that has caused more than a few people to be concerned that a man is about to plummet to his death, but fear not, it is simply a fake Sigmund Freud. First created in 1996, the work known as “Zavěšený muž” (“Man Hanging Out”) is the vision of Czech sculptor David Černý, whose work can actually be found all across Prague. Many of Cerny’s works are seen as somewhat deliberately provocative, and this one is no different. The dangling Freud is surprisingly lifelike at a distance, and a number of people have sincerely taken it for a person in danger. However, it is simply a sculptural statement about intellectualism in the 20th century and Černý’s uncertainty about it.”

STAY AWAY!!!! Honestly raging I have to give these guys a star. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DON'T EAT HERE. The food was awful and way over priced. I sent mine back after 2 forkfulls of food and they refused to take it off our bill as they said I'd eaten too much. My friends got blue stake after asking for medium and they refused to re cook it. The pork knuckle was average and comes with dry stale bread. The manager is the most rude, unprofessional, unpleasant thing I have ever encountered. I honestly wanted to set the place on fire before I left.
