Searched for a steak restaurant in Prague near our hotel in Old Town. This place was within a 15 to 20 min walk, and prior to booking an on line reservation, we read reviews and glanced through photos.
We were promptly seated upstairs to a table with a reserve tag. The restaurant is nice and modern looking with matching decor. The staff was friendly, but I'm thinking a little short being a weeknight.
Once we were handed menus, it was about 10 minutes for our server to return to take drink orders. He returned about 10 to 12 minutes after with beverages and took our order. Not sure why the large gaps between visits, but I'm assuming he was working both floors.
Our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable and communicated well.
From the menu, there are various meat selections noted that appeal to every taste and budget.
What I'm not used to are the smaller portions. Being from NYC, you are used to a "steakhouse" cut, but these would be compared to smaller individual servings, and lunch servings at some establishments. We asked our server if the sides were shareable, noting yes, but when arrived, it was a single serving portion, so note to self: need to order 2 or 3 sides to share when outside of NY..😉
All beef selections were the larger sizes offered on the menu. We tried the Ribeye, the, the skirt, and the strip. All ordered medium rare, not knowing if their scale was the same as ours. We explained to our server, red center, seared exterior, bloody okay. He understood. We also ordered regular fries, sweet potato fries and sauteed string beans with pancetta.
The fries were crispy, well seasoned and tasty. The string beans were surprisingly good. Sauteed in the fat from the pancetta made them flavorful and the choice side.
All 3 meat selections arrived on a single cutting board as we requested since we were all sharing. Ribeye on the inside, the strip in the middle, the skirt outside. All 3 cut cooked as requested, and delicious. Most impressive the skirt. Fork tender and extremely juicy. The strip was flavorful, cool center and easy to cut. The search was perfect. Lastly, the Ribeye. Wasn't a center cut perse, but more like end middle. The tendon that runs through was thick and the tail-skirt piece was thin. Maybe this is their version of a cut,.but overall, very good.
Very impressed with this establishment and well worth it. Not expensive by any means, and one of the better meals I had...
Read moreI had high expectations of this place based on the reviews, it was unfortunately a very underwhelming experience.
From the moment we walked in I had a bad feeling, stood there for a good 2-3 min with servers looking at us and ignoring us completely. Keep in mind it was not busy, I walked up to one of them and asked if a table was available. I was asked with hesitancy if I had a reservation to which I said no, they reluctantly gave us a table. After sitting down we were ignored again for a good 3 minutes before being given menus.
The entire night the service truly felt forced as though they wanted nothing to do with us, very uncomfortable. We proceeded to order a Picana skewer and a large tenderloin, at almost 900 Koruna for the tenderloin it didn't come with any sides which is insane considering the price.
Both dishes were pretty bad, a few of the Picana pieces were good, but 3 were extremely tough and inedible. (500 Koruna for 5 pieces of meat!) The tenderloin was horrible, very fibrous meat and dry. No liquid was released when it cut into it, always a bad sign, and I don't think it was a 250g piece of meat.
I ate a few small pieces and was mentioning to my GF that it wasn't very good, someone who I assume was the manager noticed that I was not happy and came over to ask if everything was ok. I explained the situation, at least they replaced it with a striploin which was better but still nothing special.
Overall this restaurant serves average food at best, the grilled veggies were good but the fries were soggy and not crispy, imagine not even being able to make decent fries. The prices combined with forced and unfriendly service was pitiful.
I don't know if it was a fluke that we received this service, but honestly I i don't think so. To be completely honest I felt discriminated against since I'm not white skinned based on the service and overall experience. What a complete waste of 2000 Koruna. I cannot recommend this restaurant, as I'm sure there are much better steaks in Prague! Beef Bar you should be ashamed of the service...
Read moreAs someone who loves pastrami, this place was a let down.
The hostess is wonderful, and did everything she could to get us seated at a time when it was very busy. She was so accommodating and helpful.
Service was fairly inattentive, however. I don't know if he forgot about us, or that's just the way it works there.
I have to say aside from the hostess, everything wasn't good. We had been looking forward to this place based on reviews we'd seen, and a nice beef place with Argentinian meat and dishes seemed exactly what we both wanted.
Firstly, the brisket cut of meat they used was awful. It was 60% fat. A little fat is good, but so much felt gross in my mouth and didn't taste good either. I ended up picking it all off, and when I was finished, it was more than half of the sandwich's filling wasted, and the sandwich didn't have a lot of filling to begin with. It didn't have enough flavour for me either. Meat was sliced unevenly.
Also, the bread was poor quality and clearly not meant for sandwiches. It crumbled, got soggy, and fell apart all over the place. It made it pretty difficult to eat at all.
You only get a tiny handful of fries.
ALL the portions are incredibly small for the high prices. The sandwich does not contain nearly the amount of meat it shows on the business' photos.
Beans were nicely done, but again, only a handful. The ribeye steak was small, and the "roast potatoes" that come with it are not roasted, they're grilled. Big difference. Coleslaw was fine but a bit too sweet for me. You do get a lot of that. But everything was a bit bland overall. Nothing stood out as particularly tasty or memorable.
Perhaps my standards are too high, but this just missed the mark completely for me. Had it been cheaper, maybe the value would have been better, but I left hungry and...
