What comes to your mind when you think about Copenhagen 🇩🇰 ❓ Nyahvn, of course! 💡 No, seriously, I'm sure 90% of people who never visited CPH have never heard this name... like myself before I went there. 😅 On the contrary, 100% have heard about the Little Mermaid. But for people in CPH, Nyahvn is more emblematic than the mermaid. And I can see why they think that. The mermaid is, indeed... little 😅, and kind of lost almost outside of the city, whereas Nyahvn is a beautiful canal surrounded by colorful townhouses right in the city center. 🤩 Of course, in that area, there are lots of restaurants and one of my friends wanted to have dinner there, to enjoy the view of the canal. Unfortunately, this is a touristy (hence expensive) area and these restaurants usually don't allow bookings on the terrace. And we were a big party so we had to book inside of the only place we could find that had an available table: Nyhavns Færgekro. The inside of the venue was empty, yet they sat us underground (so no view 😓) in the less charming salon. It was nice but the rest of the venue was really lovely. Once again, all the servers were Spanish 🇪🇸 or Argentinian 🇦🇷 (🤔) and the service was correct. The food was good too: I loved the herrings 🐟 I had as a starter but the 🐖 pork belly 🥓 I had as a main course was way too fat and I couldn't finish it (even though i was good). 🤢 Before we finished the main course, the kitchen had closed so we couldn't order the desserts we wanted 😠 and were left with almost no choice: strawberries 🍓 and strawberry pie 🥧, which I tried but didn't like because it tasted like chocolate 🍫 and we couldn't feel the cream of the strawberry. 👎 We paid DKK570 (€75) each, incl. wine but most of us had only 2 courses so, even for CPH and given the type of food we had (pork belly, for instance) and the quantities, I can't say that was cheap. An ok experience. . . . Quality & taste: 7/10 Quantities: 7/10 Atmosphere: 8/10 Originality: 6/10 Ratio price / quality: 7/10 Service: 7/10 How I felt...
Read moreThe receptionist at my hostel recommended this place to me as a suitable place to enjoy both inexpensive and authentic Danish food, as I'm on a tight budget and this is my first time in Denmark.
Unfortunately, the only authentic part of the restaurant was the atmosphere: no one in the restaurant spoke Danish, making me unsure as to the quality of the food, as good as some of it was.
I ordered the Lørom and Fried Pork Belly with Parsley Sauce. The Lørom was delicious and looked so good that I forgot to take a picture before eating as I was so hungry, but with only two small pieces of sourdough bread, it made eating the flaice, red onion, and lemon pureé very difficult. The fried pork belly was delicious: it tasted similar to bacon + pork rinds, but there was simply too much of it to eat, even with a hearty appetite. The potatoes that came with the pork rind were both too few relative to how many pieces of pork belly there were, and bland, with the parsley sauce (despite all the parsley visible in the picture) barely tasting like it you'd expect.
It's my fault for not checking the Danish Krone to USD conversion before ordering, as I ended paying 78USD ($68 + $10 tip, which I was surprised to see a tip section in Denmark), where in my opinion the food was worth no more than 30USD.
I'm trying not to let this experience spoil my first time in Denmark, but I think next time I'll simply go to one of the Christmas markets and get a massive hotdog or bratwurst and drink for less than $15.
Overall: The staff were very nice, despite no one being Danish. While food was alright, it was not worth the price, and had unbalanced portions. Though, the atmosphere was...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Nyhavns Færgekro herring bar and I have to say, it was an absolutely fantastic experience. The restaurant is located in the famous Nyhavn neighborhood, which adds to its unique charm and atmosphere. The decor is traditional and rustic, with a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, always making sure we had everything we needed.
One of the highlights of my visit was definitely the herring dishes. Nyhavns Færgekro has a fantastic selection of traditional Danish herring dishes, which were all absolutely delicious. They were served in a variety of ways, such as marinated, fried or pickled. The herring was fresh and flavorful, and paired perfectly with the traditional accompaniments like potatoes, sour cream, and crispbread. The staff were able to recommend the best herring dishes for my taste and the portions were generous.
The drinks menu is also impressive, featuring a wide range of options including local beers and aquavit. The prices were also very reasonable for the quality of the food and drinks.
Overall, Nyhavns Færgekro herring bar offers a unique and delicious dining experience in a beautiful and historic setting. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the staff are friendly and attentive and the herring dishes are absolutely fantastic. It's a must-visit destination for anyone looking for a taste of traditional Danish cuisine...
