A RED SKIN IN THE PLAZA DE ARMAS DEL CUZCO The pool of the main square was designed by the French sculptor J.P. Victor Andre and founded in the Bronx, New York during the second industrial revolution in North America. Other identical sources were installed in the American cities of Savannah, Georgia, in Poughkeepsie, New York and in Madison, Indiana. When Hiram Bingham arrived back to Cusco in 1915, he found a monument on top of the iron fountain that represented an American Indian who was surely installed between 1913 and 1914. The Monument that was later known as the "Red Skin" or the " Apache ”was bought in Philadelphia, USA by the then rector of UNSAAC, the American Albert Giesecke. It is known that this young university professor arrived in Cusco to reorganize the university that was in crisis. Giesecke, in addition to rector, was councilor and later Mayor of the Municipality of Cusco in three consecutive periods. A few decades after its installation, in Cusco the memory of the origin of the American Indian was erased; then the legend was created that claimed to be the image of Moctezuma that by mistake had been sent to Cusco and the image of Atawallpa that was to arrive in Cusco was lost in some town in Mexico. Also in the town of Mount Kisco in New York, they have a statue identical to the Indian of Cusco, there also created the legend that claims to be the image of Atawallpa and that was mistakenly put in that place. The aforementioned monument of the American Indian was also manufactured in the Bronx, New York by J.L. Mott Iron Works; cast in a zinc alloy and in multiple parts to be assembled. Currently there are a dozen identical Indians in various US towns, at the beginning of the twentieth century that monument was also offered by catalog. On September 5, 1969, the Indian from the main square of Cusco was shot down from the iron fountain; by that action the journalist Aníbal Acurio Alarcón was accused, who apparently could never prove such an act. The remains of such a monument remained piled up in the municipality and then in the school of Fine Arts of Cusco; A few years ago they disappeared and were apparently sold as zinc metal to a local smelter.
