Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards — Attraction in Baltimore

UPDATE: October 12th, 2023 It has been almost a month and there has been no resolution. Allison Vozzola - Hotel Manager contacted me 7 days after the incident to tell me that Marriott is liable and will compensate my family for all of the items stolen from our room. Since then, absolutely no one will call me or my husband back.

I recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards on 9/16/23 and my visit was marred by a serious security breach. What was supposed to be a relaxing and enjoyable visit with family turned into a nightmare when our room was accessed by someone who clearly should not have been there.

I am writing this review to share my harrowing experience and caution potential guests about the serious security issues at this establishment.

First, let me highlight the positive aspects of my stay. The location of the hotel was excellent and close to Camden Yards. My family and I were in town to attend an Oriole’s game. The lobby and common areas were clean and well-maintained, and the staff at the front desk were generally friendly and accommodating.

However, I would like to express my disappointment with the hotel's security protocols, which allowed for an inside job to occur. It is unacceptable that someone with access to the hotel's master keys or codes could enter my room without my knowledge or consent. This breach of security left me feeling violated, unsafe, and deeply disturbed.

Upon discovering that our room had been accessed, I immediately reported the incident to the hotel staff. They were responsive and expressed their concern, but the damage was already done. Our personal belongings had been tampered with, and valuable items were missing.

Hotel staff sent Hotel Security to our room who then contacted Baltimore City Police Department to investigate further. The hotel management promised a thorough investigation into the matter, but I received no tangible results or compensation for my losses.

While the hotel staff's response to the situation on the night of the incident was commendable, it doesn't excuse the fact that such a breach occurred in the first place. I was informed by both Marriott Security and Baltimore City Police that similar incidents to this have been occurring for over a week at this hotel.

This left me feeling vulnerable and anxious and not wanting to stay here over night. I informed hotel staff that we would not be staying. After Baltimore City Police obtained the information needed for their report, we left at 12:30 A.M. and drove 2 hours to our home.

Furthermore, I understand that unfortunate incidents can happen anywhere, but the fact that this incident appeared to be an inside job is deeply troubling. It raises serious questions about the hotel's hiring practices, training, and overall commitment to guest safety.

In conclusion, our stay at Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards was ruined by shocking security breach that I believe was an inside job. The lack of resolution and compensation for the incident, and the hotel's inability to address my reported issue and failure to contact me afterward leaves me with no choice but to give this hotel a one-star rating. As of today, I have not even received a telephone call from anyone at Marriott since this was reported.

Subject: Absolutely Unacceptable and Unsafe Experience - Room 750

I am posting this review on behalf of my cousin to express our extreme disappointment and frankly, fear, following a truly disturbing incident during her stay at the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards. Below is her account of the incident;

In room 750, Monday, April 28th, at approximately 10:50 PM, I was in bed with the lights off when a man entered the room. He walked right up to the end of my bed. Luckily I was still half awake and shot out of bed SCREAMING! He immediately left, I followed him to the hallway and demanded to know who the hell he was, what was he doing in my room and made him tell me his name. He apologized, stated his name was Kenny, and said he thought he was walking into an empty room. Understandably, I was terrified, slammed the door and immediately called the front desk, who assured me they would contact security. However, despite this assurance, there was absolutely no follow-up whatsoever that night. No one came to check on me, and I received no communication. The next day, I went to the front desk and insisted on being moved to a different room, even requesting an upgrade as I no longer felt safe. While they did move me to room 671 after I pushed for it, the lack of concern regarding the previous night's incident was appalling. I asked what had happened with security and what the outcome was, but the 3-4 people at the desk simply stated they had left a message for the manager who was in a meeting. To my disbelief, I heard absolutely nothing from management. No apology, no explanation, no reassurance – nothing. I was utterly petrified and spent 2 sleepless nights wondering about my safety and whether I was at risk of being attacked or robbed in my hotel room. I was traveling for business and could not afford to lose any more sleep due to the sheer anxiety this incident caused, I was forced to check out of the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards and book a room at another hotel for my remaining nights. The complete lack of follow-up and communication from the hotel management regarding such a serious breach of security and privacy is simply unacceptable. As a guest, feeling safe in my hotel room is a fundamental expectation, and this was completely violated. I would strongly advise anyone considering staying at this hotel to make sure you always use the bolt lock. The lack of concern for guest safety displayed by the management is deeply concerning. The Good:

I wish I could remember the name of the woman at the front desk when I checked in because she was great.

The pizza from the restaurant in the lobby is also really good and everyone who worked there was friendly.

Hotel is in a great location.

Why I am giving this hotel only 2 stars:

I got in late on my first night and ordered room service. I definitely got the leftover / last batch of fries for the night because they were cold.

When I read the description of amenities on the app for this location it listed movies were available. There are no movies you can pay to watch, the guide button on the TV didn’t work, and there were only about ten local channels available because the picture was static.

-I messaged on the app the 2 issues listed above and was refunded for the fries. When I mentioned the issue about the TV, they sent an engineer to my room who said “that’s just the way it is” and left. I reached back out and I was told a manager would contact me. I was never contacted.

When I took a shower, there were hairs on the conditioner and shampoo bottle. Clearly the bathroom wasn’t cleaned.

-I tried to make coffee in the room and the machine was broken / missing pieces. I messaged on the app again around 7:50 am and didn’t hear back until 3:30 pm when I was already home. They said a manager would contact me. I still haven’t heard anything.

-So I went down to the lobby to buy coffee (which I shouldn’t have to do when coffee in the room is another amenity promised) and the whole lobby smelled like weed, which the front desk staff thought was funny. Not their fault someone did that, but still not ideal. So I decided to check out and get breakfast elsewhere.

At checkout, I explained everything and the woman at the front desk said a manager would contact me. I still haven’t heard anything. While I was checking out I also got to hear other members of the front desk making fun of a guest who came down to complain about a broken toilet. Once she walked away they said she probably clogged it because of her size. It was incredibly rude.
