The Nodding Donkey — Restaurant in Dallas

Went to Nodding Donkey to catch a game and sat outside. It took about 20 minutes for anyone to greet us and take our drink order. The host at the door seemed somewhat indifferent, and we had to flag him down just to get service. Our drinks came in mismatched, non-standard cups. We ordered two appetizers—donkey balls and nachos—both of which were underwhelming. After a few drinks, we tried the margarita and pepperoni pizza, which were both well-made and delicious. The service overall was lackluster; it took several requests to get a water bowl for my dog. Flies were everywhere, which became quite annoying. So, the bar is typically first come - first serve. You grab a table based on when others are leaving during busy game days. My group grabbed a table from another party who was leaving and had been sitting for around 10 minutes when a staff member came up and said this table was now reserved and we needed to find a new table. We inquired about the reservation since this restaurant doesn’t do reservations, and they said “the owner just wants this table.”

We asked if they could find us a new table and they said “first come, first serve - find your own.” Seeing as how we had already done that - and there were no other open tables in the bar. Although their happy hour deals are fine, the waitress that “served” (in quotation marks because she didn’t actually serve us) was so rude. She came up to us, when there were at least ten empty tables, and asked if we were leaving. When one of my friends asked about the price of a beer, which had been charged at full price instead of the happy hour local beer price, she snatched the receipt from her hand and walked away without responding. We all looked at each other confused about what had just happened. She didn’t come back for at least five minutes so my friend just closed out at the bar. As we stood outside waiting for our uber, she walks up to us and very loudly, so loudly that others turned to look, asked “Did you pay for your tab?” Why were we, the only people of color in the bar, the only ones targeted so aggressively?
