This is another Hawaiian review that's been in the making since Dec. 2023. Hubby and I came to Honolulu, Hawaii on 12/4/23 for a much needed relaxing vacation. We researched for awhile to find a really nice hotel so we were anxious to see this hotel when we arrived. When we got to our room, we were pleasantly surprised. The room is a very nice size. The bathroom has a nice sized tub that I enjoyed soaking in. This room has a balcony with a beautiful, breathtaking ocean view room. That was our favorite part of the room to be able to sit outside on the balcony overlooking waikiki beach. Nice sized TV in this spacious room. The king bed was HUGE! So, so comfortable that you just melt in it. We were so tired when we first arrived so it was really nice to experience comfort after a long flight to Hawaii. We visited the pool area which was so calming and nice. Relaxed in that area for a bit before going to the mall. The location of this hotel is PHENOMENAL! With outstanding views overlooking Waikiki Beach and it's also right by the Ala Moana Center, the world's largest open-air shopping mall. We enjoyed going to Macy's for their infamous bakery and enjoying their sweet treats and smoothies! We walked along the mall, went into Target and some of the stores. We were surprised how many eating places were there. We went to one of the eateries there and they had live entertainment going on. It was really really nice. The hotel has a skybridge on Level 2 that connects directly to the Ala Moana Center. The hotel is also conveniently located near the Hawaii Convention Center and Ala Moana Beach Park. The Signature Prime Steak & Seafood gets it's own paragraph. We came here to dine. It's on the 36th floor. The views of Oahu are amazing. The food was DIVINE. There was a piano player who was playing music and he was phenomenal. We were able to talk with him as we were leaving and enjoyed the conversation. We also visited Pint & Jigger when we first arrived to have drinks and lite bites. For convenience there is a car rental business in hotel. We fully took advantage of the car rental on our last day to drive around Honolulu. The only issue we had with the car rental is when we returned the car, they weren't willing to give us a receipt no matter how many times we asked. All in all, this was one of the best hotels we have visited. The cleanliness could be improved as we found a strand of hair in bathtub area when we checked in. Highly recommend this hotel for your vaca stay. Thanks Ala Moana Hotel.

Good location and staff but room is outdated for the price. No USB inputs at all. Not that important for most travelers but important for some and most hotels at lower prices even have it as a standard. Bathroom is pretty standard. For the price I would at least hope for a bidet toilet setup or expect the toilet to have eco flush but it’s just basic single flush and doesnt even have a quiet close lid. Major noise warning you’re next to Ala Moana parking. If you’re a light sleeper, stay far away. The garage still has public access late into the night and there is not enough enforcement so very loud cars will come in the middle of the night and rev their engines. The room doesn’t block out most of the noise and I was woken up multiple times due to car noise. Hotel room noise in general could also be better insulated. You can hear when someone starts showering and even their smart phone alarm. At night with all the lights off, you can see a large amount of light bleed around the front door so you’re going to hear everything when other tenants enter and exit their rooms and any other noise in general. This also means the AC has to work a little harder with all the hot or cold air just bleeding out of these crevices. A few bits of weatherstripping around the doors would save a lot of money and help with noise. I couldn’t pinpoint the exact location but you’re able to hear people having conversations though very faintly. No big deal if you can sleep through that. Great parts about the room are the bed and microwave. Bed was very comfy and microwave was nice to have. The air conditioning also works well and they let you set it below 70 degrees but it’s loud as part of the unit is indoors vs more modern hvac setups with most of the unit outside or at least the indoor section is better insulated. It’s not the loudest AC unit I’ve slept through but something to keep in mind if you’re worried about noise. You get a big fridge but it seems to be a bit dated for how noisy it is. If you’re here for an extended amount of time, it should fit a good days worth of food and supplies. There’s no water included so make sure to bring your own. There’s a convenience store on the lobby floor. One thing not uncommon even in fancier hotels are the vents. I wish more hotels would give their vents a good wipe down at least once a month otherwise they tend to get neglected as shown in the photo. Apart from the noise and price, no big issues with this hotel. If they can resolve those issues and update the rooms without increasing the price, then I could justify staying here again.

The good: The hotel lobby is a very inviting atmosphere. They have shops where you can get snacks/clothes and have local music there on the weekends. The pool area is nice but the pool itself is very small for a hotel this size (think thruway hotel pool). My check in was on a Friday night and pretty straightforward. Housekeeping did their job and I liked that there was shampoo/conditioner bottles built in to shower . Valet was friendly. Steakhouse on the roof was pretty good, go for the happy hour deals. Location is decent with connection to the mall. 10 minute walk to the nearby beach but the park surrounding has a lot of homeless and not a safe area for little kids. I rented a bike to get to Waikiki beach. Areas to be improved: I thought it was very overpriced for what I was staying in. I was traveling alone but paid more for my hotel room that was “on sale” due to construction in the Kona tower that my flights from NY & food/bev/shopping combined. The rooms seemed outdated and had a faint damp/mold smell. The fire alarm would go off every night from steam from the shower and my 5’ frame had trouble turning it off. The fitness room was bigger than most hotels but definitely left more to be desired. There is ample space near vending machine to add more yoga mats (only 2 & always in use), exercise balls, and stretching bands. A smith machine or full rack would really seal the deal. I used the gym or walked past it every day and it ALWAYS had people using it. No breakfast or anything included. I had a small emergency as I was leaving the hotel to catch my plane back home where my backpack was left in my friends room and she didn’t have her key card. There were 50+ people in line they told us to wait in and they hassled us for ID (left in room) and had security escort us to get the backpack which left me seconds to spare to catch my flight. I was unhappy with the treatment we recieved in a dire emergency. As many reviewers mentioned there is not enough check in staff available during weekend check in, and someone should be on hand for general questions. I was also charged for not returning one of my room keys-which I have never encountered in 20+ years of staying at hotels. My door deadbolt also did not lock completely, and as a female solo traveler I was left to come up with other security mesures. There is better bang for your buck in the area. If they made some upgrades to the gym and rooms I would return.

I can't recommend Ala Moana by Mantra based on the lack of service I received. We booked the hotel for a couple of nights because we needed a place to stay while our house was undergoing fumigation. 5/5/23 @ 1100 - After waiting for almost half an hour for car to be retrieved from car garage. Valet returned to desk and informed me the car had been damaged due to being parked forward, resulting in bumper splash guard hanging over curb, by the previous night shift valet. Male security guard came and instead of being helpful, proceeded to claim that the clips that held the splash guard were already bad before the incident. Made statement with female security before leaving for lunch 5/5/23 @ 1400 - Followed up with unidentified female manager on duty about what would happen. She did not have any answers and said she would follow up with me herself or have someone else call me back when another manager "came back" 5/5/23 @ 2000 - Returned from dinner and did not receive call yet, followed up with manager on duty Lawrence Lum. Was told he started his shift at 4. He did not seem to have been provided information about what happened to car before his shift started during turnover. Mr. Lum explained how hotel insurance will cover and these things take time. Provided with hotel card with name of hotel manager that works with insurance claims. 5/8/23 - Ordered replacement parts to repair/replace damaged splash guard and clips at own cost. 7/31/23 - Have not received any calls or emails from Ala Moana or any of their representatives regarding the incident. I highly suggest thinking twice before believing Ala Moana Hotel will hold themselves accountable for their actions. 6/9/24 - Still have not received any follow up. Also discovered that the damage was more extensive than previously noted. Some front bumper clips are broken and are irreparable.

I'm very unhappy 😔 booking this hotel. Lots of flying bugs 🦟Bugs and gunshot noises, it's Not a true upscale hotel 👎👎👎👎 Plus, No accommodation exchange this issues ‼️‼️ Over 💰Priced Hotel 🛏️ I have requested don't put me in next to the Exit -stairway door, They did anyway. 1st half of the day was good and later halftime of the night is awful , hearing lots of people running up and down the Exit-stairway and hearing 14 to 16 gunshot loud noise 4am morning. And after , on the 2nd day of my stay, Again get more flying bugs coming in to my room 2nd night also. Because people keep opening the Exit -stairway door. Letting the flying 🦟bugs coming to my room. Didn't get a good night sleep. I got 🦟 bites by their bugs.🤕 I'm over paid for this hotel, they got noisy rooms and flying bugs. Don't recommend this hotel. Management don't care because they are unions they know that they don't get in trouble any kind of way therefore they really don't care about the tourists or the local tourists, they did not even offer any accommodation exchange on the bugs issues 😡😕‼️ They need the pesticide sprayer for hotel bugs every 3 months. ⚠️Especially, last year, After 🚒 🔥 fire in Maui City theirs bug's 🦟 blowing by the weather to Honolulu Waikiki, now horror madness in this island 😭. All over the Ala Moana area and hotels. By the way, I have researched this is one of the gov. Scientist generic creation of this kind of invisible mosquitoes named " No-See-Ums" ‼️‼️🙀😡🤕🤢 I have got repeat 🦟 bugs 🤕bites me for two nights. ☹️😡😭 If they know future AI will take their job, maybe then they will act more humility and much careful for the customer service. For now management doesn't care to do real jobs for the customer.
