This ice rink is fine if you are a novice just wanting to skate around the rink in slow circles, but for us more advanced in skating - this place is not friendly. I was chastised multiple times for different “breaking of the rules” (which aren’t posted or online - so skaters need to know these: No spins No backwards skating Obviously no jumps since there’s no backwards skating - but I was told NO jumps Always skate counterclockwise (no working on edges of the opposite side) No “tricks” that are dangerous - whatever the means. I was doing a spreadeagle and practicing Mohawks and I was chastised for these, too. No stopping for a period of more that 30 seconds
The ice attendants HOVER. If anyone falls at all they immediately come over. Again, for novices this is fine, but some of them enter the ice IN STREET SHOES. We skaters know that this is dangerous for many reasons. Also, falling is a part of ice skating - everyone does it. Running into the rink in street shoes every time someone falls is dangerous for all the other skaters.
In addition to this exhaustive list of policing, the ice is ROUGH - I mean so rough that my deep edges (3/8) on my figure skates had a hard time staying in the ice.
The rink is small - not competition size at all (maybe half).
I was really disappointed and upset that they don’t prewarn or post rules. I wouldn’t have wasted the money, and I would have gone to a rink that understands a thing or two about...
Read moreMy family had a wonderful experience last year at the Ice Rink, in 2024 we went expecting the same. Unfortunately, this year was much different. We had TWO cell phones stolen from us that were set down within arms reach while we were getting children ready. Right by the ramp where you get on the ice rink. The quality of the ice this year was terrible, they are not using the Zamboni at all in between sessions, there is no joy in skating on that ice. It is really disappointing, as the venue is beautiful. We were able to recover one of the phones but the other tracked to a garage and then back to the plaza later in the evening. So watch out with your belongings as there is no place to lock anything up there, and it appears someone is...
Read moreMy family stumbled upon this awesome hidden gem after attending an event at monument circle and I have nothing but praise to share. It was easy to get to, accessible, has a basketball court in impeccable condition, beautiful artwork surrounding it, giant screen sculptures to greet visitors, clean updated restrooms, tons of seating and tiered grass areas to lounge around, and it’s all bundled up with gorgeous architectural elements everywhere you look. Definitely a cool place to go on a budget for locals and...
