This was the most unwelcoming visitor center I’ve experienced in years of traveling across the country. The very purpose of a visitor center is to provide hospitality and support to travelers. However, here I was approached aggressively and spoken to rudely.
All I did was place my laptop briefly on the corner of a desk that was clearly marked as unstaffed. I wasn’t behind the desk, I didn’t take a chair — just using a few inches of open space to check emails before heading into the park. A staff member approached me aggressively, demanded I move, and then immediately left without using the desk himself.
Tourists — especially those working while traveling — rely on Wi-Fi access, and most visitor centers understand this. I’ve never had a negative encounter like this at any other center nationwide. This one stood out for all the wrong reasons.
