Let me start by saying that if you’re from Texas or really anywhere from New Mexico or further south, you’re going to be disappointed. If you like seasoning in your food this place is not for you. If you like real Tex Mex food, this place is not for you. If you like Pace Picante sauce, canned frijole beans, corn in your Mexican rice and just the plainest “Mexican food” then you will like this place. I’m not exaggerating when I say there are no seasonings in that kitchen. Even adding salt and pepper couldn’t help these meals. There were many red flags and we just ignored them all- our fault, we were willing to give it a shot. The server was genuinely annoyed at life, annoyed to be at work, annoyed to be asked questions. He was irritable and probably over worked. Let’s start with the chips and salsa- I can’t even call it salsa. Absolutely no heat, no salt, just watered down tomato soup. We didn’t even finish the chips and we always finish the basket of chips. We ordered a burrito, Al Pastor Tacos, and 3 kids meals that consisted of chicken tacos, and a simple quesadilla. Let’s start with the burrito. It is big and stuffed but my husband forced himself to eat it since he doesn’t like to waste food and the whole time he was like “this is so bad”. My Al Pastor tacos were just as bad as they looked. Instead of marinating the pork, they slapped on some sort of Taco Bell sauce on the top of the taco. I halfway ate through one and picked at the second. The beans were just gross. I can’t even think about it, yuck. The kids shredded chicken tacos not only looked unappealing (looked like canned chicken) but again had zero flavor. The margarita tasted like alcohol mixed with Gaterade. The restaurant decor is nice however it was dirty. Food 🍱 n the floor, bathrooms hadn’t been cleaned probably all day. Even the host stand had a bin of dirty dishes on it (should have walked out then). So that was 2 adult meals, 3 kids means, and 3 alcoholic drinks for $120. After we left for the rest of the night we just kept saying how bad it was. I truly don’t know why people like this place. My only guess would be that they have never experienced anything remotely close to Tex Mex because it’s definitely not...
Read moreWe went to this place twice while we were visiting Jackson. Both times we really enjoyed the food and service. The people seem to really love working here and are really friendly. Probably why we went back a second time. I had the mahi-mahi grilled taco and the shrimp taco with the grilled pineapple salsa. They were mediocre. I would stick with the other tacos next time. The guacamole has always been good. My eating companion(s) ordered the fried ice cream both times and whole the ice cream and fries part is to die for the dessert comes out inconsistent and the second time was pretty much ruined because of it. The first time it came out looking like a crazy Mexican hat dance or something with whipped cream all over it all around the plate and chocolate sauce everywhere. The second time it came out with less whipped cream and chocolate sauce a little more tight and put together the presentation was nice but then they put toasted coconut on top of it which was not mentioned on the description and isn't something everyone likes. For me it would ruin the dessert completely. It's too strong of a taste for me. Like many things consistency is key. It will also save you a lot of money if you prepare everything the way it is set on the menu. I have had to send many meals back because they add cheese to stuff that doesn't say it has cheese. I am allergic to all dairy products so...
Read moreSo hugely disappointing! I grew up in Jackson. Have been ordering Piglets' cheese crisps since they were located in the sidewalk cafe at Crabtree Corner. A cheese crisp was always a "special occasion" when I was younger and it continued to be a treat until today. The restaurant was loud and chaotic (to be expected) and the staff seemed to be unconcerned about their customers. We were one of 4 tables up in the front and our server delivered menus and then disappeared. When he came back he wanted to know if we knew what we wanted to eat. Once we ordered the meal portion of our visit there was no question about drinks. Not once. Didn't come back and ask. Brought water and our meals out shortly thereafter, leaving 3 glasses of water in front of one of us and leaving. Didn't ask if we wanted beverages. Didn't ask if we needed anything else (more water, hot sauce, sour cream, etc) just turned and left. Eventually he appeared and asked if we wanted dessert. Ummmm....no? How about the bill so we can leave as we are pretty much interfering in whatever the hell else you're doing?! The meal itself was disappointing-very little meat in the cheese crisp and what was there was fatty. Very little salsa. Very little lettuce. The prices have certainly gone up (it's Jackson, after all) but the food and the service have gone...
