Working long hours in an office, I gained some weight. During COVID, I bought a Peleton and lifted weights at the gym, and I lost weight and gained muscle. It was a new me! I literally worked out 7 days per week for over 3 years, and I was in the best shape of my life. Then in October 2023, I injured myself while working out and underwent cervical disc replacement surgery, and my body started atrophying (just withering away ā a shell of what I was just months prior). I lost all my muscle and started gaining some fat again. Several months after my surgery, I started working out again, but it was tough due to my injury/nerve damage. Around that time, a friend of mine just started with Hybrid and loved it. I decided to give it a shot. At the very least, I figured I would learn how to work out without getting injured again.
I signed up with Hybrid and was assigned to Kelly as my personal trainer. I must say that I had buyerās remorse the same day I signed up. I kept telling myself that I could just work out by myself. Why do I need a trainer, right? About a week into training with Kelly, I fell in love with it. These are the best workouts Iāve ever had in my life! For example, when I worked out without a trainer (pre-surgery), I worked out really intensely and thought to myself āI had a great workout todayā. Just imagine getting 4 times that intensity, and thatās what I get with Kelly. Theyāre next-level workouts ā workouts Iāve never had before.
It's been about 3 months since I started at Hybrid, and I now work out with Kelly 3 days per week. Iāve gained more muscle and lost more fat in the last 3 months (working out only 3 days per week) than I did in the 3 years that I worked out 7 days per week at the regular gym. NOW Iām in the best shape of my life, and I look and feel better than I did pre-surgery. Kelly made sooo much of a difference. The accountability, motivation, and positivity that a personal trainer brings are key. Thanks Kelly and the Hybrid team!
I also referred 2 people to Hybrid, and both love Hybrid and the personal trainers, and theyāre as addicted to it as I am. Itās easy to get addicted when you start seeing results so quickly. One of the people I referred previously had a trainer at Goldās Gym in DTLA (7th and Fig), and she felt lukewarm about her experience with the Goldās Gym personal trainers. She didnāt feel it was personalized, and there was no accountability because nobody cared if she showed up, and nobody had a goal of getting her to the next level. She wasnāt motivated to continue there. Now that sheās at Hybrid, she loves her trainer, has the same trainer each time, and looks forward to each session, and says itās so much better than any other experience sheās ever had. She loves it. I suppose you get what you pay for.
Finally, my trainer Kelly is a rockstar. He loves working out, is super knowledgeable, is able to answer just about every question, explains things really well, and is really encouraging and positive. He is one of the most personable people Iāve ever met, very relatable, and is just easy to talk to. All the trainers at Hybrid are awesome. These trainers donāt bark orders at you, nor do they āforceā you to do anything, and they never pressure you. They just encourage and motivate you, and after a period of time, they just know what youāre capable of doing, and they know exactly how to push you to the next level. Kelly sees the progress that Iām making and continuously makes changes to the program to maximize my workouts. I highly recommend Kelly and Hybrid. Best decision Iāve made in a very long time. It lasted a little over 12 weeks and I am incredibly happy with the decision to make this investment in my health. Hybrid is THE best gym I have ever been to ā in terms of both equipment and people ā and there are at least 7 things I love about it. I love the holistic approach the personal training program adopts ā not only workout matters, nutrition, recovery and the overall support in the surroundings all factor into my progress. Meal logging and messaging with the coach is a wonderful accountability mechanism that helps me tremendously to stay on track. Some supervision is necessary (letās not put too much faith in self control and disciplineā¦) but I benefit the most from developing a healthy habit that will last long even when the program ends. Plus, I learned a lot about nutrition along the way. Speaking of learning, I think the āeducationalā aspect of training really makes Hybrid stand out. I can take the knowledge Iāve learnt in the past 3 months to embark on my own journey of exercise. Having a good coach puts me on the right trajectory. My coach Julio has always been communicative and adjusts the workout & nutrition plans based on my personal needs and progress. He is an awesome trainer, always patient with my endless questions and the fun conversations happened during the intervals between exercises made each training session less āpainful.ā In addition to 1-1 training, Hybrid offers a variety of group-based boxing/martial arts classes. Boxing has become my new weekly routine. If you are looking for some good sweating (or venting off the day), check it out. I appreciate that Hybrid occasionally holds free community events. Iāve been to one boxing class with champion Chris Van Heerden. It was a lot of fun. A minor thing that probably nobody else cares about but I think āquote of the dayā on the whiteboard at the entrance is cute! I have been going to this gym since it opened in August 2020, started with their group boxing classes. I have always had a passion for boxing and want to become more skilled and the coaches Stef and Armando are amazing! I have learned to be patient and learned more skills about boxing.
I have always been curious about their personal 1:1 training. I have been paired with Coach Paulak. He is a professional coach, who deeply cares for his clients to be the best version of themselves. With his support and training, within a month, I feel stronger. I really didn't think it was possible, I couldn't do it without his guidance and support! I came in telling him I don't cook, I can't stick with a nutrition program and now with his help and checking up on me really motivated me to make a lifestyle change. I have been feeling stronger from all our sessions thus far, he has always challenged me to never give up in both the trainings and with my eating habits. His genuine care and professionalism is exceptional.
