Black Canvas Coffee — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Never coming back. The brunette woman who took our order yesterday was miserable. Very cold sharp responses to questions, didn’t know what brown sugar is (felt like a lie), coffee was bad, not hot, and she mixed up our order. They don’t have vanilla. Our table was dirty and after a long wait we inquired about the food. Someone went to the kitchen “to check” and brought out waffles so cold the icing had started to set. The waffle was very pretty but cold/hard, a waste of my mom’s money who was treating for my birthday breakfast. I felt so bad about her $80 bill and terrible service. When my mom grabbed money to pay the woman sharply said “we’re not really taking cash right now”. What odd phrasing. This made her scramble in her purse a little, cashier seemed annoyed. Not a fun way to start my bday/new year. Maybe ask how we’re paying before taking our order? I have the place 2 stars. 1 for decor, the cafe itself is lovely; Another star for my mushroom omelette that honestly is the only reason I didn’t ask for our money back. It was delicious and still kind of warm when we received it. Never coming...

The reviews on this place are proof if you make a place look pretty and put some decent trend foods on the menu (avocado toasts, sales, cute pastries), transplants in Hollywood will gobble that ish up and give it a high rating. As this establishment has COFFEE in the name and shares a neighborhood with some pretty heavy hitter coffee spots, you'd assume coffee is the star here. Of the 3 beverages I tried, the coffee was mediocre at best, even sweeter drinks that don't require good coffee to be good were astonishingly underwhelming. Maybe I came in on the wrong day but I'm sure the dead eyed, annoyed looking, singular barista working the store wasn't feeling too passionate while our drinks. Don't care to try the food, I came into the coffee shop for coffee and was disappointed. Love when a coffee shops food surprises me, but not when the coffee suffers for it. Plenty of great spots out there, don't settle for this one if you're looking for a specialty...

The coffee is good, the service is horrible.

I have been here a few times and although overpriced, I really enjoy the coffee and ambiance, but this last time was my final time supporting this establishment. There is a guy that works there who is always so rude, not welcoming, and straight up gives off bad vibes. He does not welcome you when you walk in, he does not respond when you tell him thank you, and he acts like it’s an inconvenience making the very product that they sell, coffee.

He also yelled at us as soon as we walked up about not being able to order food because they stopped serving food, but I wasn't even interested in food, just the same latte I always get (or used to get).

It is a shame that bad service is going to deter my business but there are way too many good coffee shops in the area to support someone who is not happy...
