UPDATE: One of the co-owners, Armond, reached out to me on here to address the concerns that I raised in my original review. I still stand by what I wrote, not because I want to negatively review the shop, but because I feel that my depiction of what to expect is wholly accurate. It really is a great place, though, because the food and drink were delicious - and reasonably priced, too - but just be advised, it's going to be packed and parking is going to be a total nightmare. BUT, Armond advised me that they've been working with the city to secure more parking spaces, which is really great because that indicates that they listen to concerns and actively try to allay them. So yes, I think this place is a fantastic coffee shop with tasty items. I just wouldn't recommend posting up on a laptop here, unless you are within walking distance already, since it can get pretty busy/crammed and the prospect of running to the meter every 55 minutes is less than inspiring. And don't you dare be a minute late, they will ticket you; the city must really need money because their meter maids are not playing games with you.
I had a pretty good experience here, the staff was friendly and efficient and what I ordered was tasty - this Avocado Bruschetta kind of mash up, a halved avocado with dressing and seasonings on top - and the coffee was tasty as well. The seating area is kind of small and there aren't very many outlets. That, coupled with the traffic getting bunched up around the tables makes this a less than ideal place to sit on your laptop and work. That's cool, make the place hi and bye then.
Speaking of hi and bye, the parking situation is OBNOXIOUS. Long story short, I parked at a meter (which only let's you buy up to an hour - DUMB) and i went out and reupped twice. On the third try, I was literally 2 minutes expired and had a ticket on my windshield. It isn't the coffee shop's fault, and I ultimately understand that I was in fact late, but I found it uncomfortable that enforcers in the area wait to write citations for excessive amounts and I feel that is counter to the interest of the public and unethical. And if I am going to have a hard time parking somewhere, then I'm just not going to go. I also feel that hours of operations could extend a little longer, but that's just me.
So, with all that factored in, I gave this place 3 stars. Not because it isn't enjoyable, but because there are some pretty annoying...
Read moreA café love’s paradise, Javista Organic Coffee Bar shines as the sip star of Sunset Boulevard. The staff is knowledgeable about their sizable menu, and their coffee shop poses as the perfect spot to catch up with a friend or catch up on work. The inside is decorated with fairy lights, rustic wood touches, and candles for sale–handmade by the staff themselves. Javista has outdoor seating available with several tables in a convenient, West Hollywood location.
Javista offers a delicious menu of lattes, including: chaggachinos (lattes made of chaga mushroom, monk fruit sweetness, and cacao), turmeric lattes, matcha drinks, and CBD lattes. If you’re looking for a bite, perhaps accompany your coffee with an almond croissant, gluten-free orange-chia sweet bread, or a blueberry vegan muffin. No matter when you visit, breakfast is available all day, as well as a host of sandwiches and salads.
We ordered the tantalizingly refreshing hemp extract CBD cocktail. This special tea drink, made with hemp milk, come in three flavors: Jade (matcha), Roobie (rooibos), and Gold (turmeric). The drink contains 15mg of CBD. To my delight (as a coffee shop connoisseur), the latte possessed a creamsicle colored hue that I’ve never seen in a drink before. The monk fruit provided a sugary sweetness, and the latte was smooth and creamy. A perfect Saturday afternoon sip, we felt luxurious indulging in the hemp extract cocktails.
To pair with our beverages, we ordered the vegan delight sandwich. While Javista offered many different sandwich breads (including gluten free options), we went with the baguette. Crispy and freshly baked, the baguette’s crunch foretold the delicious delight waiting between the bun. Fresh slices of avocado, spring mix greens, heirloom tomatoes, bruschetta, and fresh basil decorated the inside of the savory sandwich. The flavors of the basil and fresh bruschetta shined, and the vegan delight made for the perfect lunch. Javista makes food that you feel good about eating. My meal tasted so garden-fresh; it was as if a staff member had made a run to the farmer’s market after we ordered to buy us the most unprocessed ingredients around. We will absolutely be back to try more of Javista’s drool-worthy lattes and...
Read moreI write for a music and coffee blog called Crooners In Coffeeshops, in which I interview local musicians at local coffeeshops. My writeup reflects the positive experience that I encountered at Javista on our interview date.
Nestled on the ever eclectic Sunset Boulevard of Hollywood, Javista Organic Coffee Bar is a great spot to perch yourself for some much needed unwinding. Once you step through the door, you’re welcomed by a soothing indie music and familiar hipster chic decor complete with wooden tables, worn industrial style chairs, tiny succulents, and tastefully incorporated copper accents. Armond and his kind, helpful team make sure that you are comfortable and well taken care of as you scour their menu of organic brews and vegan friendly chews. However, Javista has a few other alluring drink choices for you to choose from than the standard leaf teas and espresso shots.
CBD Tea Cocktails are one of Javista’s intriguing specialty drinks. CBD, which is the non-psychoactive cannabinoid compound found in marijuana and hemp plants, helps to not only relieve anxiety and insomnia, but also promotes concentration and relaxation, something that anyone who lives in L.A. can agree that we just don’t get enough of. Javista offers Organic Turmeric Wellness Shots that are chock full of ingredients that are anti-toxin, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory. It’s the perfect recipe for health conscious Angelinos. I opt-ed for the pure, root-y Gibraltar and pigged out on a delicious banana chocolate muffin for a quick afternoon pick-me-up, but I’ve got to say my curiosity for the specialty drinks will definitely be bringing me back sooner...
