Fitness on Broughton has been my gym for 4 years since I moved to downtown Savannah and I have watched it go through a transformation. At first, I only went to this gym because of the location... the customer service was lacking - very few people were friendly, and the equipment was constantly having issues. I noticed a huge change as soon as Denise became the manager. Denise really cares and hires friendly and considerate people. I regularly attend the 5:30 classes on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday led by Sean (TRX and Insanity.) I love that these are included in my membership. I continued to go to these classes until I was 38 weeks pregnant, and Sean and the rest of the staff were so accommodating and welcoming and never discouraged me from working out while pregnant, and would help me find modifications when necessary. I feel like family with most of the evening staff and made sure to come show off my "fitness baby" when he was born. I also had no problem putting a freeze on my membership via e-mail for a couple months after my baby was born and I was unable to work out.
The gym suffered an unfortunate setback in the last year or so when equipment was damaged by leaks from Starbucks, but Denise did everything she could to make it right as quickly as possible. All members got a free month to help make up for the situation that was really out of her control. On the plus side, a lot of the gym was redone when this happened, so it is better than ever.
If you previously had a bad experience with FOB, I highly recommend that you give it another chance, as it is truly a different gym than it was a few years ago. The customer service is great, the downtown location is great, and the...
Read moreWe read the reviews on this gym and feel misled. The gym is small and grimy. Equipment is rusty and ancient, but I will say the pads are all in good repair. There’s a weird mismatched set of kettlebells ranging from vinyl covered to plastic to cement. There are about 5 50lb kbs, but no other pairs. Since I do a lot of KB work, this was frustrating. Lots and lots of free weights clearly purchased from a much larger gym, but no pull-up machine. Few plates. It’s a Frankenstein weight room.
Yes, they do put tampons out, and there is a steam room and dry sauna, but that doesn’t make up for the filthiness and general disrepair of the place. Paint is peeling, walls crumbling, trim popping off…. Today the floor in the group fitness room was so gritty it literally felt like sand had been spread on it. It’s not been finished or treated in ages (see the pictures) and it’s no wonder they only do group classes once a day. Women’s bathroom floors are filthy, filthy (pix).
This gym is your only private option downtown if you don’t have a gym in your hotel or bnb. Most hotel gyms are as good or better than this, and they are definitely cleaner.
Two stars because at least the day pass was...
Read morethis gym is lacking in equipment and customer service. I froze my membership months ago due to ongoing construction in the gym, which occurred during gym hours and resulted in machines i was using not even being present on some days. On one occasion a gym staff member asked me to leave the locker room after having just gotten out of the shower in order for a man to come in and do something to the carpets. I froze my membership rather than cancel it because i thought once the construction ended i would forget my complaints and want to return. three months later i decided i was better off working out at home (that's how dismal their equipment is) and when i called to cancel, they charged me for a month after I hadn't set foot there in over three, and refused to give me a refund because "they lost my form." trust me, you are better working out at home, in a park, or anywhere-- the frustration this gym caused me far outweighed anything...
