My wife and I stayed at this bed and breakfast establishment in Niagara-on-the-lake for three nights in May on the second leg of our Ontario road trip. We arrived early afternoon and were met by Cathy who gave us the warmest of welcomes and showed us to our second floor ensuite bedroom.||Our room had a view over the very quiet road. There was a lot for us to park our car and it was smoothly paved to the house which made it easy to wheel our suit cases. There was a double bed provided with quality sheets. It was a comfortable bed with a supportive mattress. With a large wardrobe and a chest of drawers there was ample capacity to store clothes for those staying for a longer period. In the dining / sitting room there was a refrigerator for storing chilled foods, such as picnic provisions, as well as a kettle with a variety of teas for making hot drinks. We found the room to be at a comfortable temperature - it was good to be open a window for fresh air and to hear the bird song in the neighbouring trees. The ensuite bathroom was spacious, comprising a spa bath with shower over, a sink and toilet. Towels were soft and fluffy and there was a shower gel dispenser if needed.||We found the breakfast offer to be very interesting and wholesome. We started off with a variety of freshly baked muffins. There was a large bowl of fresh fruit salad - berries and melon, followed by a hot dish - a light quiche / flan one one day and stuffed French toasts on the next. These was a selection of preserves. Breakfast was an opportunity to chat to fellow guests - it was served at 8:30 am which gave us plenty of time to get ready and head out for the day.|Our hosts were very pleasant and we enjoyed talking to them immensely. The property is beautiful with so many homely touches. We are so glad that we stayed here - both for the comfort of staying in such a wonderful home, but also for the convenience of being able to walk a couple of blocks into the main part of town or as a base to drive into Niagara Falls which is about a 30...
Read moreMy friend & I had a Delightful experience in Niagara-on-the-Lake, 1/2 hour north of the Falls (Canadian side). And staying at this B&B was a big part of that fun experience.||Our hosts, Cathy & Colin Fowler were SOOO warm, helpful & FULL of great information, and this helped make our week's vacation very special: they gave us a Fun & informative map of their town, made recommendations when we asked for their advice, etc. ||Our B&B was literally 2 blocks walking distance to Queen Street, the main street with quaint shops, art galleries, souvenir shops, and, restaurants galore ! Plus, if you're a wine lover, this area has tons of wineries to visit (close to 40 ! ) AND, if you enjoy George Bernard Shaw's plays, this little town has two theaters ! ||Also, our hostess, Cathy, is a phenomenal cook (...my taste-buds thought of her as a chef !) = ) Each morning she started our day with a hearty, 3 course breakfast ! In addition, she graciously accommodated our food allergies, including Gluten & dairy issues. (just let her know ahead of time). And talking about time, breakfast is served AT 8:30. So if you're not a morning person, just let her know the evening before.||Every morning, towards the end of our meal, the two of them would come & join everyone at the breakfast table, which was a Fun & Informative way to begin the day! ||One last thing: they have a really nice hot tub on the back deck (they supply towels). Having artificial hips, I didn't plan on using it, because the traditional hot tubs have to be climbed over to get in & out. But Colin created this one so it sank down, and only the top part of the hot tub was visible. Which meant all I had to do was sit on the edge of the hot tub (maybe 18" off the floor of the deck), and slide in. Getting out would have been easier than the average hot tub also. But not knowing this, I didn't pack a swim suit, and therefore did not use it, even tho his design...
Read moreFabulous hosts, fabulous accommodation, fabulous full breakfasts, catering to our dietary needs. We stayed three nights and felt right at home. Excellent backyard parking which is surrounded by their beautiful gardens and a great deck. Located a few short, lovely, quiet tree lined blocks from the main street, we walked to theater, the shops and restaurants. To venture further afield, we unloaded our bicycles and rode through wonderful flat, mostly paved paths along the river to various cafes and wineries. The entire area, Niagara on the Lake, we found to be an idyllic park like setting, a beautiful place to visit and tour. We highly recommend Antique Slumber be your choice of accommodation for its excellent quality plus the hosts' very thoughtful touches at every turn. Absolutely charming, would return...
