Kafka House — Attraction in Prague

The native house of writer Franz Kafka stood on the edge of the Prague Jewish Ghetto. The house was built in the first half of the 18th century according to the plans of architect František Maximilian Kaňka on the foundations of Romanesque buildings and was to serve the Benedictine monks, whose church was administered by the neighboring church of St. Nicholas. When Emperor Joseph II abolished the monastery, the city council bought the building have an archive and warehousehere, later also theater and flats. Franz Kafka was born here in 1883, but two years later the family moved to Wenceslas Square. A few years later the house was destroyed by fire and demolished - only a portal survived that was incorporated into the new Neo-Baroque building of the apartment building.

Rodný dům spisovatele Franze Kafky stál na okraji tehdejšího Pražského židovského ghetta. Dům byl postaven v první půli 18. století podle plánů architekta Františka Maximiliána Kaňky na základech románských budov a měl sloužit benediktinským mnichům, jejichž církev spravovala sousedící kostel svatého Mikuláše. Když nechal císař Josef II. klášter zrušit, koupilo budovu město, aby zde a nechalo zřídit archiv a sklad, později divadlo a byty. Franz Kafka se zde narodil r. 1883, ale již o dva roky později se rodina přestěhovala na Václavské náměstí. O několik let později byl dům poničen požárem a stržen - zbyl z něj pouze portál, který byl začleněn do nové neo-barokní stavby...

A Praga se la ha definido de muchas maneras, como “Madre de las ciudades”, Praga Dorada, Praga Mágica, una de las que a mí más me gusta es “Sinfonía petrificada”, porque la ciudad tiene algo de musical y desde luego tiene unas piedras, una arquitectura impresionante. No es raro que haya servido como fuente de inspiración a pintores, poetas, músicos, fotógrafos. Praga en efecto ha sido escenario de numerosas novelas, teatro y cine. La verdad es que no se puede pedir un marco más adecuado. Tal vez el autor más conocido y vinculado a Praga sea Kafka, que pasó prácticamente toda su vida allí.
