As we arrived, a group of four, we were pointed at a table, given menus and the start was not that bad.
However once the waiter began to ask what we would like to drink, problems began piling up.
The attitude of the waiter was very dismissive, disregarding and cold. It was as if he was quite fed up with his work perhaps? We quickly began to feel unwelcome.
Before I begin I want the reader to keep in mind: The restaurant at the time of our dining was almost empty. 2-4 other people were dining in addition to our group of 4. So there definitely was no rush.
The waiter seemed to be in quite a hurry to always get away from us. He spoke English, but in such a rush and slur that even my friends who were the most fluent in English (me included) found it so very hard to understand anything that was said.
If one was to ask a question about something the waiter was very quick to just storm off somewhere instead of asking for specifications on the matter and to just be of service and help to us. He did not much care about guiding us through this experience and making it preferably wonderful.
Our drinks were brought to us, but not poured for us. For such a price I believe waiters should at least pour the drinks for the diners.
I had Liver pâté and a medium rare 250g rib-eye steak with mashed potatoes, which was tasty but honestly it could have been a lot better for the price it cost. One of my friends had the same steak but 450g medium. We compared our steaks and his was obviously more pink than mine, mine being almost more closer to above medium and his closer to medium rare, but his was very inconsistently cooked. Almost well done on couple spots.
When my friends bigger steak was brought to him the waiter put on a little show by cutting it then and there in front of us and then sprinkling sea salt so generously that it flew all over the table and also a little bit into the foods of my friends nearest to the waiter. He did not come back at any point to clean up the mess. We dined to the end on a table sprinkled in sea salt. Again all of this was done in such a fuzz and rush that we all were left feeling cold and unwelcome due to the attitude and harshness of the waiter.
I asked what whiskeys they've got and I was told to look around at the shelves around us. The waiter did not say this in a comedic way whatsoever. This was his serious answer to my question. This answer officially made me feel like a bug under the shoe of the waiter. An annoyance. I asked for a list or a menu of the whiskeys and was given a thick list of all the whiskeys available, except the waiter told us that the menu is old and not accurate to their current selection. Again he storms off somewhere without an explanation and before I get a chance to ask what he meant specifically.
At this point my trust in their service and care had dropped so low that I didn't care to ask for any recommendations on the whiskeys and just went for something that was familiar to me. There weren't even any whiskey recommendations for the steaks, which I found disappointing as an enjoyer of whiskeys. He comes back after some time and I inquire about some whiskeys and he gives me a frustrated smile and says "Yes, well I will have to go and check." But of course you do! How else could you know about the whiskeys in question!? Again I felt like the waiter was indeed very fed up with his work or something of the sort.
We have our whiskeys but we don't feel comfortable staying for much longer. We pay for our meals separately and decided to not tip.
I inform the waiter that I will not be tipping this time. I pay with cash and get 200-300 CZK back almost entirely in 2 CZK and 5 CZK coins. A ridiculous pile handed to me accompanied with a wide smile and a stare straight into my eyes. This was the last straw and I officially decided to let others know of my experience in this establishment, which is something I have never felt the need to do before.
This was the first time ever I felt genuine sadness giving my money to an...
Read moreYou would think that an almost empty restaurant would want to keep it's customers happy and inside, purchasing as much as they can to make profit, but nay. Save us, there was only one other group having a dinner. Yet, when we stepped in, the waiter made it very clear that we were not wanted there. The feeling we got was that they thought they were too "fancy" for us while in fact the place is was just another steak restaurant. We had to go there because every other place was full.
No greetings, none. When asked to be seated, we were just given a hand wave to a general direction without saying anything. After we sat down, the menu's (no whiskey menu) where thrown at the table without saying anything (this was a constant theme for the evening). Keep in mind that the place was almost empty so there was no rush or anything.
While ordering the waiter would try to hurry us up and got visibly frustrated if you didn't give the order immediately. Not only that, but he spoke very fast, didn't look at you, making it harder to hear and these combined with a hard accent made it sometimes difficult to understand what was being said. When asked to repeat, he would sigh and repeat it even faster or just walk away without saying anything.
Funny thing was that in a whiskey restaurant there was no whiskey menu or recommendations to go with the food or after. We did ask for whiskeys and were given the answer that the whiskeys are at wall so look at there. As a whiskey enthusiast, this was just laughable .
The staters and fish dishes were great but the stakes were mediocre and didn't match the price. It certainly didn't help that the waiter just slammed a handful of salt on top of an unevenly cutted stake (he did this all in front of us). The salt just splattered everywhere, including the floor, out clothes and the food that was not part of the clown "show". The stake was way too salty at the middle but at the edge it almost had none.
Best part was that after all this mockery they had the guts to ask for tips and when it wasn't given to them, for a clear reason, they...
Read moreRude service, feeling of being unwanted and disappointing food summarize the whole experience pretty well.
Me and my friends went out to eat and from the get go received a lukewarm reception. We then got to ordering and it constantly felt like the waiter was frustrated with us for both thinking about what to eat and also asking anything from him. He also made us feel like we weren't wanted there or like we weren't "good enough" to be there.
My friend also asked to see a menu for the whiskey and the waiter just simply left without saying anything. He then came back with the menu only to say that it is not up to date and just told to look at the walls. Overall the experience with service was that we felt like us being there was "inconvenience" to the server and that he'd rather not deal with us.
Regarding the food l ordered the the burger which was rather expensive and I have to say that I was not too impressed with it and was sort of left with the feeling that I could have eaten the same thing in any other burger place and pay half the price.
To close out the night when my friends refused to tip due to the bad service he was handed his change with 33 coins and the same thing was done to my other friend. This felt like it was done out of spite and I think it is beyond petty to do things like this if the service does not warrant a tip.
In all other places we left a tip due to receiving quality service. We do not have a problem with giving it but we will not be guilt into doing if it is not earned.
Overall, the whole experience just left a rather sour taste into our mouths and left us wondering what was the discrepancy between our experience and between all of the people with...
