I stayed there as part of a large work group event. For the catered meals, all the hot items were far too cool to be enjoyable. The hotel room was quite average for having a lobby that projects a higher class. The hotel room had some damaged elements including the edge of a wall corner and the base of the small mirror on an arm in the bathroom. I'm convinced the person who designed the hotel room has never used a bedroom or a bathroom in their life. The side table next to the beds was too low and too far away from either bed - it needed to be a bigger, taller table. The switches for the lights above the bed were too far away. I have decently long arms and I had to stretch to hit them - never mind that they are too small to find in the dark. The bed is just a little too tall to comfortably sit on and I'm a fairly tall person. Also, the edge of the bed is quite stiff and digs into the back of your legs. The chair that is at the desk in the room is not nearly wide enough to fit with the chair arms on either side. It felt as though it was meant for a child, not a grown adult - unless that adult is on a runway model's diet. The climate control was constantly clicking on and off throughout the night - every 20-30 minutes or so and the clicks aren't quiet. It clicks first at the thermostat and then from inside the wall bump-out where the heater presumably is. In the bathroom there is essentially no counter space. Again, I'm a tall person, and the sink was stomach height - too tall. The sink had no depth to it and I could barely fit my hands between the faucet and the bottom of the sink to wash my hands. The step in to the tub also felt far too tall, even for my long legs. I feel any one who is shorter or older with less strength/balance could have some trouble getting in and out. Having a rain shower head as the only shower head option is a terrible idea. They are not practical. I either have to stand with my head/face constantly being watered, or I have to stand almost completely out of the water and be cold. And there are parts of the body that need rinsing that can't be accessed well with a shower head that only points down - you need a wall mounted shower head to get the angles necessary. Also, the faucet in the tub requires you to push the knob down to get the shower to start - contrary to every. other. shower. faucet. I've ever used, which normally requires you to pull. People struggling to figure that out could factor in to why that faucet was also disturbingly loose on the wall and felt like it could have broken at any moment. You need a better pricing system for the parking under the hotel. I missed leaving the garage by 10 minutes and had to pay for an entire 3rd day of parking. I get having day pricing to prevent normal mall guests from using your lot for quick shopping. But, you could have a model that has 24 hour minimum and then break out into smaller chunks after that to account for different times in which people might leave your hotel.
And then, of course, on to the most egregious issue - a shocking number of our party's cars were towed from the MOA parking ramps when it was the hotel's responsibility to communicate vehicle information to mall security. Now, my understanding is they got the vehicles towed back and covered the cost and everything. But, I know of at least one person whose transmission is messed up because the tow company mis-towed her AWD vehicle.
I've seen your hotel numerous times as I visit the mall on a semi-regular basis. From what I see on the outside and what I've seen of the lobby as I drive past, I always assumed this was a top-tier hotel. But, my experience here, from all the room design issues, quality issues and apparent process issues, this is one of the least enjoyable stays I've had at a hotel. My experience there has already convinced my girlfriend to not attend her company's holiday party that is occurring there in a little over a week from now. The only thing this hotel has going for it is an unbeatable access to the mall and excellent elevator service. There were a good number of elevators, they were fast, and it always felt like there was an elevator on my floor when I needed it (or one got...
Read moreThe location is perfect if you are planning to go to the Mall of America. The room was nice and comfortable. The hallway was muggy and smelt musty. But, the customer service is the reason for this bad review. The check-in experience was the worst I have ever had!! I had booked a room via Priceline. Our flight was delayed and we were going to check in a day late. I called Priceline the day I was suppose to check in, who put me on hold and called the hotel directly. When Priceline returned to the line they said no money could be refunded, but Hotel Blu agreed to hold the reservation and allow me to check in a day late, which is all I wanted. But, just to be on the safe side, after speaking to Priceline, I called the hotel directly myself, via the local number listed on their google profile with a 952 area code. I spoke directly to the front desk and they confirmed what Priceline had said and assured me that they would go ahead and check me in and that I would have a room when I arrived a day later. They also said they would document this on my reservation so their "team" would know what was going on. However, the next day when we arrived to check in, the lady at the front desk, Louise, was so incredibly rude as soon as I explained the situation. She insisted that I did not have a reservation, even though I provided her with my reservation number. She said my name was not in her computer at all. When I showed her the local hotel number I had called in my phone she insisted that phone number did not belong to this hotel. She said it was the phone number for their national call center therefore she didn't know anything about my room nor my situation. She also said that because my reservation was booked through a third party there was nothing she could do to help. She continued to get more and more defensive with every question I had and finally she said I would have to speak to a supervisor. She couldn't be bothered to call a Supervisor to come and help but instead she said I would have to just wait until one showed up, then she literally shooed me away with her hands stating that I needed to move away from her desk so she could help other guest. The supervisor did show up quickly and was nicer to deal with but continued to lie about the phone number, the missing reservation, etc. After 10 min of asking for my name over and over again while looking at her computer and claiming she had no record of my name nor reservation she miraculously found a set of physical room keys with my name already on them in a box right beside her computer. A box she had already looked through while I was standing there claiming my keys were not there?!?!? The box had several sets of room keys in it which I would assume belonged to guest, who like me, had been checked in before actually arriving. The whole interaction was so weird and obviously full of lies. Never once did either lady apologize for the mix up. I did call the local phone number again once I got to my room and whoever answered did confirm that it was indeed the local number directly to the hotel. Just for comparison, I had also rented a rental car on that same Priceline reservation and there were no issues at all when I picked it up a day late. First impressions really do matter and this was a really bad one, so even though the hotel is nice I would not recommend...
Read more+Beautiful lobby, I love the black and chrome aesthetic, but I agree with other reviews saying it's small and feels cramped. The front desk is almost immediately in front of the entrance because the elevators are right behind it. +Connected to the mall. This was my first stay at the Radisson and I loved being able to drop bags off at the room, or take food to eat in private, or just to rest a bit between floors. +The rooms were clean with lots of charging outlets. The bathroom was lovely and the tub was spotless. Some reviews mention stains on the carpet and filthy rooms in general, water stains, and issues with the shower having a half glass door instead of a curtain. I didn't notice any stains in the room. The desk chair is faux leather and is peeling in one spot, but that didn't bother me at all. The bathtub had a shower curtain instead of a glass wall, not sure if that was a recent change due to the negative reviews or if we got lucky. +Privacy! I love that you need a key card to get to any of the floors above the lobby. Feels safe and secure. +Checkout is at 12, fantastic since I hate feeling rushed in the morning. Most hotels have checkout by 9 which isn't bad, but I just appreciate having a few extra hours to get going for the day.
-THE BEDS! I ordered a room with 2 queen beds, as it was me, my husband, and our friend staying in the room. However, the beds aren't queen sized. Another reviewer mentioned that the beds are Doubles instead of Queens. I agree with this, although I kept calling them Full. Whatever they are, they're NOT queen sized. They're smaller than that, and as such I ended up sleeping in the desk chair.
I tried speaking to a front desk associate before bed to see if there had been a mistake and to see if we could get a room with actual queen mattresses. She was very nice and friendly, but informed me that they don't have any queen beds in the hotel, and she's not sure why the website lists them as such. She seemed sympathetic to the issue as if this wasn't the first time a guest had brought it up. All she could do was offer to move us to a king bed, but I was not going to have 3 adults sharing one bed.
I came down the next morning to talk to a manager about the "queen" beds. The morning associate was also very sweet and friendly, she got me a manager who explained that the company that provides the beds for the hotel actually dictates that those mattresses are their standard queen size. However the manager understood my complaint and is working through the third party I booked with to comp the room, I'm very appreciative of that since the room was expensive and I slept on a chair.
-No hot tub! HOWEVER, the bathtub in the room was quite clean and was perfect for soaking in, with the added benefit of privacy, no screaming or loud kids, and it was spacious and comfortable.
-parking??? $20/day just for parking when that should be included in the cost of the room. I feel bad for the reviewer who's car got towed. Poor guy.
Anyways, I would stay here again for sure. But I would know to book a king bed next time, and if there's anyone besides my husband and I, we may have to go elsewhere to get actual queen beds. Staff was amazing, I stripped the room for housekeeping since I had the time, and didn't see...
