Crayola Experience at Mall of America had a LOT more to do than I expected! You walk in and purchase your tickets, and/or head to the entrance line. The label maker machines were first up. You got to pick your color crayon, and customize a name to put on the label! Just past that entrance way, there is a dark room with 2 dancing crayon screens, that copy your moves. There is also an interactive projector onto the floor where you can step on bubbles and play games. Walking in a bit further, there are clay "vending machines." They have many colors to choose from (purple, blue, red, green, etc), then you have tables to sit at to form your own creations, using tools. There are also coloring sheets provided at the nearby tables to just color. Further in, there melted spray crayon designing areas, a toddler and big kid playground area, a little cafe, melted crayon object makers (we made car shape and seahorse shape), and more. There's a counter to purchase Scribble Scrubbies and tables to sit and color, wash off, and re-color. There's even more that I can't think of at the moment, as we went in December of 2019, and I forgot to leave my mark here :). Overall, a lot of fun activities for kids of all ages to do, and it does make it worth the price. We ended up staying about 2 hours in total before our 2- and 4-year-olds were tired.

I went with a 5-year-old and she had a great time! There's a nice flow to all the activities and enough variety to entertain older and younger kids. We skipped some activities that involved cutting and gluing (also because there was no glue...) and stuck to coloring activities. It was cute to pick a crayon and customize the name. That was a token and another token is for the modeling magic (playdough). You can buy more tokens but since adults pay to get in, I felt we had enough tokens. (But teachers get in free. 😎 Bring your ID.) The drip art wasn't working when we went and there weren't many helpers around if you had questions. The crayons at the coloring table were dull and there wasn't a sharpener nearby. The markers at the scribble scrubbie were drying out and a bit unkempt. You aren't allowed to bring in outside food or drinks so be ready to spend too much at the snack shack (hot dogs are $4.99, pretzels are $3.99, and fountain drink is $2.49 with no commemorative cups available in July of 2022). I was glad there were bathrooms inside and some snacks so you can spend a leisurely afternoon coloring and playing. It was expensive imo, but my kiddo had a great time so worth it for the experience. We may never be able to do it again and I think she was in the sweet age spot for the Crayola Experience. Glad we went.

Today our family made a visit to the Crayola Experience - Mall of America. I would recommend only going on Monday or Tuesdays when - Carlos is off! He was very rude and disrespectful to his “customers”. He literally turned our family away from a station since we had already visited the area and there was an entire area empty …. one child and three adults inside at the time. At first we thought we misunderstood him and he stood his ground and would not let us participate in the area. BEWARE Carlos will tell your kids they are not welcome! We left and won’t be back….. Carlos ruined it for us. (Carlos has brown half shaved head with a ponytail top.) Avoid him at all costs if you don’t want your kids hearts broke. As soon as he realized I was calling to let their leadership team know he could use some “obvious” customer service training he immediately ran over and started gossiping to his neighbor station attendant. All while the table station sat empty besides the 4 already occupying the area. I know it’s hard to find good talent right now, but at least hire people that have patience and basic customer service skills to actually work and allow 4 years old to participate in a specific area. That entrance was literally $$$ down the drain to have a sour experience for good.

Crayola Experience is one of the most interactive and engaging places for kids (and adults!) to explore their creativity. From the moment you walk in, it’s a colorful adventure. You can create your own crayon wraps, turn your selfie into a custom coloring page, and of course—color, paint, and dive into all kinds of hands-on activities. There’s so much to do—make a puzzle, design digital art, melt crayons into fun shapes, and even make your colored creation dance on screen. One of the coolest gems is watching your own fashion model or race car come to life in a digital show—my kids were so proud to see their work featured! And just when you think you’ve seen it all, you hit the play areas. The toddler zone has a life-size Lite-Brite and is perfect for little ones, while the big kid playground is a full-on energy burner with climbing, jumping, and slides galore. It’s the perfect mix of art, play, and imagination—and we could easily spend hours there. Highly recommend for families looking for a fun, creative day out—you won’t be disappointed!

Need friendlier and more interactive employees. I think of Crayola as the best crayon in the world. So in theory they should have the best crayon staff/cast in the world right? Very much not so. They were not rude, but no one seemed happy or excited to be there. Especially at a child focused activity center, everyone could use some training or replacing. Most everyone there seemed like they were just doing their job and collecting a paycheck. From buying tickets, to getting help with some of the activities, no one was enthusiastic or even smiled. What could have been special moments were made just transactional. It was not even busy either, look at my pictures, the place was empty. Employees were either standing around, talking with other employees instead of guests, or playing on their phones. I would have returned had the staff been more interactive for a almost $30 per person ticket. Overall you get like maybe, MAYBE, $10 worth of fun stuff to do, so experience needs to be the focus of the staff.

Update: it's been 7 months and nobody reached out to me so my ratting is going to 1 star. Wish I could do no stars! My daughter and I only went into the store to look around. Its a pretty cool store. Prices weren't too high. Considering it's the Mall of America. The 4 ladies working the front counter looked very bored and out of place. Not one of them smiled or said anything to any customer that walked in or out of the store. I will never now buy anything from this store just because there is no customer service skills. I know it's hard to find people to work however businesses need to apparently teach humans on being friendly and welcoming into their business. It's a shame because my daughter really wanted to get something. And actually do the experience. I just can't support a business with no customer service skills. I took a video of the employees doing nothing! I may change my review if someone reaches out to me. But I hardly doubt it!
