My family and I stumbled across Cafe Amici while we were completing a shore excursion during our cruise. If you don't know, a lot of the cruise ship companies have ownership/interests in the shopping areas of port towns. You know the type of stores -- diamond shops, gift shops, duty free stores, etc. They are the type of places you see at every port and aren't part of the real culture of the city/port. They are pretty gimmicky stores and we weren't in the mood to buy over-priced stuff with questionable authenticity.
Cafe Amici just happened to be close to where we were dropped off for the shopping experience. The restaurant is nestled back off the main part of the road so you won't see this little gem if you happened to drive by without walking through the area. When my family saw (and smelled) Cafe Amici, we immediately knew we wanted to spend our time eating and drinking there. It had a lot of seating, a small bar, and the setup of the restaurant was very cool. It was just a nice looking place to spend a couple of hours after being on the beach.
Jen and Martin were our servers and they were great. This is an Italian restaurant with a legitimate brick oven they use to cook their pizzas. My family ordered a couple of pizzas, bruschetta, and some other items off the menu and they were all great! My wife and I split a large pepperoni and basil pizza and it was great. My sister-in-law had the bruschetta and raved about how good it was. The food smelled amazing and the taste matched. The prices were reasonable too.
Overall, our experience was a very good and I'd eat here again if I travel back to St. Thomas. We really enjoyed the atmosphere...
Read moreI decided to stop by this restaurant for a quick bite to eat since it was fairly empty, and it turned into a complete disaster. The food took almost a hour for a small cheese pizza with pepperoni and two salmon cake sandwiches. When I questioned how long the food will take, because of my limited time downtown due to a shore excursion, the Waiter/Bartender was very rude by saying things like" we're not KFC you know, the food takes time" and also say "we're not apple bees we make our food from scratch, I put your order in 32 min ago". It took 45 min to get garlic bread. When I received the food it look like it came out a microwave, definitely not from scratch. This place is a complete joke and needs better staff. I was on a Carnival cruise shore excursion and wasted my time downtown St.Thomas dealing with this disaster. if you see this place and it looks empty, it's for a reason, go to another restaurant.
Reply to owner. I was there on Saturday, July 29, 2023 approx. 12pm to 1pm on a Carnival Venezia Cruise Shore excursion downtown St.Thomas with my wife and two children. There were only 3 staff I can see from my seat. It was a Black female Waitress a Black male Cook and a White male Waiter/Bartender who we had the issue with, I believed said he lived in Florida if that helps. Me being an US Army Veteran And a recently Retired NYPD Police Officer with 21 years of Honorary service, I felt disgusted with The KFC comments as it seemed to have racial under tones with me being a Black man with my family trying to enjoy St.Thomas for the first time, which is a Beautiful place that I will love to revisit in the future. Thank you for replying...
Read moreUnacceptable Service and Disrespectful Staff at Cafe Amici I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Cafe Amici was so disappointing, I feel compelled to warn others. From the moment we arrived, the service was abysmal. We were never acknowledged upon entry and had to ask to be seated. The waiter silently dropped the menus on the table without a word and no greeting, no explanation, nothing. When we asked what beverages were available, his response was simply, "Look on the back of the menu." That set the tone. We then inquired about the size of the pizza slice, and he condescendingly asked, "Don’t you know how large 12 inches is?" We ordered a half cheese, half meat pizza, but what arrived was half cheese and half pepperoni. When I pointed out that the meat portion was missing, his dismissive response was, “Pepperoni is meat,” completely ignoring our actual request. I asked to speak to a manager, and he told me there wasn’t one available. When I asked who was next in charge, he told me he was, and asked how he could help. I told him that his behavior and service were completely unprofessional. His response? “You’re welcome to leave at any time.” This type of attitude is unacceptable for any restaurant, especially one that claims to provide a welcoming dining experience. The service was rude, dismissive, and condescending from start to finish. I will never return, and I suggest others think twice before...
