We called an audible when arriving in the AM at the Charolotte Amalie shopping area downtown... we were heading to a different place for AM coffee, and we saw Bumpa's and remembered someone recommending it to us last time we were in St. Thomas. We're always wanting to try something new!
So, Bumpas is a smaller, narrow place on the second floor of a building on the waterfront street downtown. What it lacks in size, it more than makes up for the view it provides of St. Thomas Bay. It's a spectacular view! The couple that run the place are super nice, and they've been in St. Thomas for decades... literally. They moved there and raised their children some 20+ years ago.
We opted for our usual lattes, which were very delicious. The food selection at Bumpas is almost overwhelming, so any different things to choose from, and they all sounded good. We opted for a couple of empanada-like fried/stuffed meat pies, like a stuffed fry jack you'd find in Belize. We ordered one stuffed with "salt fish" and the other with beef.
Unfortunately, we were served two of the salt fish variety, which was promptly corrected. Served with a sweet sauce on the side, and another side of blistering hot habanero sauce. The fried dough was a little bit thick on the ends, but overall the pies were good. The fish was a bit salty, but tasted great. The beef did lack a little flavor, but was still good.
We would definitely good back to try other things on the menu. When the coffee is really good, it's always worth a return trip when the menu is vast. Recommend Bumpas for your coffee and breakfast/lunch...
Read moreMy recent breakfast experience at Bumpa's in St. Thomas was nothing short of delight. We indulged in a variety of dishes, including the French toast with bacon, the croissant, and scrambled eggs with cheese, all of which were expertly prepared and incredibly satisfying
The atmosphere at Bumpa's is as inviting as the food is delicious. With a prime view of the harbor and waterfront from the second-story seating area, there's plenty of opportunity for people-watching and soaking in the scenic surroundings. Whether you're a tourist or a local, the ambiance adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the dining experience.
Service at Bumpa's is top-notch, with the owners/chef providing attentive and friendly service throughout our meal. Their passion for their craft shines through in every dish, and it's evident that they take pride in ensuring that every customer leaves satisfied.
Considering the prime location in a high-traffic tourist area, the prices at Bumpa's are reasonable and to be expected. The quality of the food, combined with the picturesque setting and excellent service, makes it well worth the investment for a memorable breakfast experience in St. Thomas.
In conclusion, I highly recommend Bumpa's to anyone looking for a delicious breakfast with a view in St. Thomas. With its delectable menu offerings, charming atmosphere, and attentive service, it's sure to become a favorite spot for locals and...
Read moreWanted to share this. My wife and I were back on island last week and always great to see friends and make new ones with the warmth of Virgin Islanders.
However, our last day came across something that has bothered me. On our way to the airport we decided to get a decent breakfast and stopped in town at Bumpas. It had been several years since we ate there, I think pre-IrmaMaria.
As we place our order the phone rings and the woman owner ( not sure her name) excuses herself and takes an order, no problem. She hangs up and proceeds to complain about how she wishes "these people" would stop saying "Good Morning etc etc" when she has a line. Like they can see through the phone? Plus, its the VI way to say "Good morning"
It gets worse, the older gentleman cooking has a girl there, maybe 14 or 15, who I am assuming was new. He kept verberally abusing her. Asking " if she spoke English"? Barking out orders. Clearly continuing to verbally abuse this girl.
I wanted to tell her she doesn't deserve that and don't let anyone talk to her that way, but didn't get the chance. One min he is barking orders for her to cook. The next the woman was tellling her to get a bucket and mop floors. If she, or her family reads this, make her quit. It was demeaning and uncalled for.
What is with these people? We won't be back. I hope others do the same. Totally disrespectful to the...
