I will start this off from the beginning: We made plans to attend a wedding in Charlotte NC. We booked 5 rooms at the Le Meridien when we arrived they were only able to accommodate 3 of the 5 rooms (despite having the reservations made). During check in I was told sorry your upgraded room is not available. Got to the room and there was 2 beds in the room as we booked (the beds were full size at most) I have not slept on such a small bed since I was 12 years old. we were on the 17th floor right below a nightclub so did not get any sleep the 3 nights we stayed. When the second guest arrived she was the bride in the wedding. It took her 2 hours to check in to her room after having a long day of wedding rehearsal and needing a good night sleep as her wedding day was the next day. The 3rd guests arrive to be told that their reservation was made for the day prior (called them a liar that it was always booked for the night before I pulled up all my confirmation emails with the correct nights showing. Tried to show them to the lady at the desk and she shoved me away stating that someone will be back in a minute) and if we wanted a room for that night we would have to rebook. the 4th and 5th guests went to the Marriott Downtown (their stay was excellent). So we rebooked the hotel so that everyone could be accommodated and have a room to sleep in. everyone was from 6 hours away and greater mind you. The Bride was staying in a suite and was promised breakfast and help to and from the car with luggage. neither of the two happened. on wedding night the groom came in and tried to get their room key to work and they did not allow him to get a new key. The bride in her wedding dress had to come in and fix the room key (since it was under her name) in the pouring rain she got out of the car at the gated entrance to the hotel had to walk in side getting soaked by the rain and asked for her card to be fixed so she could park. they gave her a new card and verified it was fixed. She returned to the car at the gate and yet again the card did not allow her access to the hotel. went inside again in the pouring rain and finally they tell her if that happens use the call button on the gated entrance. when everyone was leaving same thing happened 1 out of the 2 guests were able to leave the parking garage using their door key.
overall I would not recommend staying here and I also work for a company that has a lot of travel and hotel stays I will make sure that no one from my company ever stays at a le meridian. I would book a different hotel when staying in Charlotte. I would not even want my worst enemy staying at this hotel.
Still no resolution and it has...
Read moreThis review is for both the Sheraton and Marriott as there are shared spaces between the two. Our room was on the Le Meridien side. Both are owned by Marriott. Pros: microwaves provided upon request and all rooms have mini fridges, coffeemaker is by Illy so you can make espresso and they provide the pods, housekeeping staff is friendly. There was one staff person who was attentive about the mircowave. She had to call twice for it but it made it. Cons: nowhere to really walk to unless you're seeing a game so this made the location less than ideal although in general there are few places where eateries are clustered together in this town (very much a business district) On the up side if you don't mind driving there are some great restaurants and coffee shops within a 2 mile radius. The rooms are ok, but definitely need maintenance. Doors and cabinets look worn and the bed frame was also all scratched up. The toilet runs unless younpull up on the handle after every flush. I think the housekeepers try their best but the carpets don't seem to get regularly vacuumed. Front desk staff are less than enthusiastic and I felt like I was bothering them when I asked a question. The parking garage gate wasn't working so we couldn't get out without calling which thankfully the person on the other end was prompt in letting us out remotely. Front desk just sort of shrugged and said they thought it was malfunctioning. This morning we tried to get coffee on the Sheraton side. There was no menu so I asked if i could have a vanilla latte and she simply said, "We dont have vanilla" and didnt offer any other options. I looked over at the two bottles of syrup on the counter and asked what flavors they were and with crossed arms she reluctantly told me what they were. I would have gladly ordered someyhing else but at that point i was just tired of the rudeness and just said "ok bye" Two girls were working there neither of which seemed interested in helping us. Again it felt more like we were bothering them. I'd suggest going to Provided coffee in town for amazing coffee and great service. I was glad this was a work conference, I don't think I would come back to this hotel for vacation. Maybe we didn't look rich enough or whatever. I'd like to think there are staff that are kind and I'm sure there must be, but that was not our experience in general. I'm happy to be proved...
Read moreThis is an older hotel that's doing its best with what they've got. All of the staff I encountered were very friendly, and were happy to offer quick assistance. My room was clean, but dark when I entered - I'd suggest the hotel open the curtains so it doesn't feel as dark walking in (and to future guests, open the curtains if they aren't already and the natural lighting will make the room feel much better, less dark and dated).
The coffee makers in the room are fancy and offer drinkable coffee, which is unusual for hotels; however, operating the machine is somewhat confusing, and the disposable cups don't fit underneath the spout, so you have to brew espresso size cups about 3 times until you have about a half cup of coffee. (But honestly, isn't that what you'd drink out of a knock off Keurig anyway and wish you hadn't?)
My body wash dispenser didn't work, and I'm sure the staff would have fixed it if I'd asked, it's just one of those things I just didn't have time for (in town on business for only two nights). I also had to fidget quite a bit with the TV remote and hit it just right in order to turn it on. The walls are thin but, again, it's an older hotel; nothing that can really be helped.
It's a great location if you're needing to be close to the courthouse - temps were in the 100s when I was trekking with boxes and even that was completely doable to/from here. The courthouse is about a block away, if that. There isn't much to eat or do in the area, though, so you're kind of stuck with the hotel options here and at the Sheraton that this hotel is attached to. Although I didn't get to visit it, the pool at the Sheraton looked very nice (to my knowledge this pool is shared with the Meridien) and has an indoor/outdoor bar attached to it. There's also a separate restaurant and bar inside the Sheraton (again, connected to the Meridien) and it offers room service for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to Meridien guests as well.
There's a video of a cockroach that pops up when you first look at reviews for this hotel and just want people considering this hotel to know: I was on alert for bugs and saw none, felt none, and my colleague that was staying at the newer Fairfield up the street had a spider in the shower so this hotel wins...
