Good and bad things to say about this hotel. First the good. Staff was very helpful and informative. Very polite. The hotel is definitely old but very kept up with large rooms and a vintage style feeling throughout the entire place. Now the bad. I used some of my points for the stay here. We was givin a room that was secluded in the basement with no type of view to the outside world whatsoever. We did check in a little early but was told our room was ready for our stay. Needless to say the room wasn’t ready. I think all that was done was a quick dusting of a room that is very rarely used. Spiders living in the tub. The room was decorated nicely with an old original fireplace that looked very nice at first glace till you noticed the spiders living around it as well. Ask the front desk to clean the tub while we was out. They did of course with no trouble and good attitude. So that evening we filled the tub and cranked up the jets to find it hadn’t been perged in what seemed like a very long time. Tub filled with dry old algae. After the 3rd fill of trying to get the jets clean Needless to say we just took a shower instead. This is a nice hotel but for the cash price or the amount of points I used to book the room I really expected better. What a disappointment. Also I was told this room was an upgrade from my original booking because of my choice members level. So watch out for that line. Location of the hotel is about a 5 min walk to downtown Gettysburg so location is perfect with good parking. Small bar in the basement as well as a small restaurant. Didn’t eat at it so sorry can’t tell you how the food is. I did see what I could consider to be private dinning rooms so family’s will have privacy...
Read moreAfter 18 hours of travel we arrived hoping to have dinner at the restaurant and get some rest. We were told it was closed for a private event. We were disappointment as we chose this hotel over the equally nice ones because of the restaurant. We were told we could walk two blocks to another restaurant. We sighed and woman behind the front desk said, “You can’t walk two blocks?” We can but we were exhausted and didn’t want to. I asked her who I could file a complaint with about not being given a heads up that the restaurant we closed. As man walked by and she said in a voice reminiscent of a middle schooler tattling on her classmates, “this lady would like to know who she could complain to.” He replied, “I am the owner.” I said it would’ve been good customer service to have been given a heads up that the restaurant was closed as we would’ve eaten before we came in or we would’ve stayed elsewhere. He said it was last minute as his wife was throwing a party. He then reminded us for food that there was a restaurant a block two blocks away. As we were very hungry, we decided to walk down there in the dark and we were greeted with an hour wait. Oh, when I checked and I left my credit card in the card reader. The front desk called up to tell us the card was there. When we came back downstairs 10 minutes later the card was still in the card reader but no employee were at the desk. Anyone could’ve walked by and taken it. Anybody. I once loved this hotel. This...
Read moreI booked this hotel with fingers crossed as I had never experienced this boutique hotel line before and in my prior experience, Choice Hotels can be pretty hit or miss with regard to the standards observed.
My nephew had a weekend series of ski lessons at Liberty Resort that I signed him up for and the resort properties were booked over Presidents Day Weekend so I looked to hotels in Emmittsburg, MD and Gettysburg, PA for alternative accommodation.
I was impressed with the warmth of the staff I encountered during the overnight stay along with the comfort of the rooms and furnishings. The bathrooms are very modern but the building otherwise retains its historical air with paintings representing times from the Civil War and Reconstruction era.
The restaurant is decorated with photos of student classes that once occupied the building in its prior incarnation as the local school and the waitress was sweet enough to point out her older relatives in the pictures, telling us how her family came to be residents of Gettysburg. She was very sweet to my nephew and the lady who checked us in at the front desk was very kind and solicitous, walking us to the room and offering advice on the best way to stay warm and comfortable with the in room heater.
My only gripes were that I thought the room needed better lighting and a microwave would have been nice but the lack of these was not a deal breaker. Really, I'm just nitpicking since everything was...
