A friend wanted to check out Gettysburg and later grab a bite to eat. I've been a few times, but never ate anywhere in the area so we looked to see what our options were on a Sunday night.
We decided that Mexican sounded good so we headed to Montezuma. There was plenty of parking as they have their own lot. We were greeted instantly and sat at a booth that was roomy for just the two of us. My buddy wanted a margherita and learned quick they did not serve alcohol. That's no issue with me cause I don't drink, but just an FYI if you do.
Our server was friendly and attentive. We always had water refills and were checked in to see if we needed anything. I ordered a shrimp burrito and a side of queso for the complimentary tortilla chips. The chips came out warm which I like. The salsa was good, although I do prefer a medium or hot option. It was very mild so if spicey isn't your thing you'll be ok.
The food came out quick and was hot! I really enjoyed my shrimp burrito. Shrimp were seasoned well and I didn't find anything overpowering. I like how they add some queso atop the burrito. I requested no sour cream which they left off. That's actually a big plus cause I make that request at other places and they still put it on the plate. The portions are very big and you'll leave feeling full!
Overall, I thought Montezuma was a good spot with welcoming and friendly staff. I'd return if in that part of town and I'm...
Read moreWe went to Montezuma today and we had an awful experience. The waitress was nice, but the food was subpar to say the least. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with enchilada sauce and it was just a plate of lettuce (a massive amount) and cheese sopping with enchilada sauce and sour cream smeared on it. I couldn’t even see the enchiladas under it. It wasn’t seasoned nor proportioned well. The worst part was when we ordered the Del Mar Tacos. They were advertised as being filled with crab, shrimp, and scallops. When they brought them out, the tacos had frozen shrimp and scallops. Something was very off with the scallops. It was also filled with rubbery imitation crab meat. We even asked for the menu again to check and see if it said it was imitation crab meat, but it said it was actual crab meat. When we went up to check out, we showed the manager (?) the menu and told her that we got imitation crab meat. All she said was “okay”. I said if you’re going to be giving imitation crab meat and scallops like that, you should probably label it as imitation crab meat. I told her we were charge full price for crab meat. Then all she said was “okay, bye”. It is what it is, but both of us felt extremely sick afterwards. If you do go which I highly recommend you don’t, don’t get anything...
Read moreYears ago this place used to be great. Authentic delicious food with good service and fair prices. I have tried them over the past few years and service is bad, staff is rude, managers don't care, food is half the quality and size that it used to be for double the price. It has been awhile so I decided to give them another chance. I ordered shrimp tacos and paid extra for chorizo to be added to them this came to almost $18.00. They were the smallest tacos that you could imagine. Small tortilla, almost no shrimp, and they didn't add the chorizo that I paid extra for. I asked for hot sauce on the side and I didn't get that. I paid for a large salsa and literally got watered down salsa with only FIVE chips in the bag. They charged me 10.00 for a watered down cup of salsa that tasted like tomato water and five chips. All together I paid over 30.00 for something that would of cost 5.00 at taco bell. It is embarrassing to say that TACO BELL would of tasted better. They should be embarrassed serving the quality of food and service for the prices they charge, while claiming to be an authentic Mexican restaurant. I called them and got no apology no offer to make my food right or a refund. If I could give Montezuma's in Gettysburg PA zero stars I would....
