So me and my fiancé were looking for a new dining experience in Gettysburg. We have been to Gettysburg multiple times and have tried a lot of great restaurants. So two days ago we were in the mood for some Italian food and wanted to try mama Ventura’s. So the wait wasn’t awful is was about average for a Friday night that wasn’t a big deal. The host was very cool he sat us down as soon as the table was ready. Our waitress took about 6 minutes to come take our order she was very cold and robotic like she didn’t care (which is fine because we were starving and just wanted our food). We then got our appetizer was on time abou 10 minutes after the order was placed. after that nothing for 45 mins the only reason we got drinks is because the host went and got them for us. Then finally our salads came and the waitress just plopped then down and disappeared. After another 20 minutes we finally received our dinner . Our dinner was surprisingly very hot and seemed like she just put it in . The reason I say this is the people who came after us a party of four was sat , ate and left all before we got our dinner. So we were ready to leave at this point and our check took another ten minutes to find it’s way to our table. There was not a word from our waitress or anyone else about the ridiculous wait time we had. Not only that there was no apology nor did I ask for one or raise any sort of hell we were both pretty quiet about it needless to say I left a dollar tip on a 58$ order. Now I’ve worked in a kitchen setting I get it but there was no communication at all. They weren’t that busy I’m pretty sure my waitress forgot to put the food in and instead of saying anything she was just silent which is why I’m writing this review. If she would of just said a few words like hey were running a bit behind or something simple she didn’t have to beg or suck up just be honest I wouldn’t be sitting here writing this. Besides that the food was okay it wasn’t anything to write home about. I like how everyone around us was be constantly served bread while we got one serving at the end of our meal. I won’t ever come back to this place the service for us was just poor and the food wasn’t really worth any kind of wait. There are plenty of places in Gettysburg that just have an over all better menu , and...
Read moreThe good - our waitress was pleasant and tried to be helpful. Otherwise, what began as a wonderful family experience quickly became a major disappointment. Four of our 9 meals ordered were not edible, my son felt ill after two tastes of his fish, 3 bad meals were fish, seemed like a bad batch. We were asked if we wanted a replacement but when food is so unappetizing you don't feel like trying anything else at the time. Neither the manager or the chef came to talk with us; this is always the right thing to do when food is not good. Several of us have tried reaching the manager personally rather than posting a public negative review. I have sent two direct email messages also to avoid posting this review. No replies were received. All efforts have been ignored, my son was hung up on. We were just hoping to have an honest conversation and have something done to make amends. We can only assume that bad reviews do not matter to MaMa Ventura's as it is a well established restaurant with enough good reviews to allow them to not care about disappointing customers. Were they new, the outcome would have been different. On top of being ignored, I was still charged far far too much for the substandard meals that were eaten. The large bill included a $25 tip, which, as I was close to tears, I nearly missed. They not only built that tip into the bill, but they print an additional line at the bottom asking for a tip. I imagine many people give two tips as it is easy to be fooled with this unfair system. Something is very wrong when a business doesn't care about its main purpose, in this case - to create delicious meals and wonderful memories for its customers. Mr. or Mrs. Manager, I am very sorry that we did not get an opportunity to speak to you in person that night. And I'm very sorry that you have ignored our repeated efforts...
Read moreLackluster performance by an eatery that should be better. Was initially told there was a 30 minute wait for seating 6 at a table, so when we walked away, someone out of the blue said they could seat us immediately. We walked to the back of the restaurant, were seated just outside the bathroom door, and left there for 15 minutes without water, silverware, or bread. It was only after my girlfriend approached the front of the house that we needed service did a waitress come to our table to wait on us. After that the service was good, as waters were delivered, drink and food orders taken. That's the good part; now for the bad: the food is absolutely flavorless, bland, poorly prepared. I ordered a mushroom & truffle ravioli which was covered in a tomato creme sauce which was flavorless. The tomato sauce had no pop, no zest. There was only 5 salads and breads delivered to the table to serve 6. The meals were delivered separately, as one person at the table ordered gnocchi and our waitress informed us it was prepared incorrectly, thus had to be remade... thus we waited for another 10 minutes before we could all eat. The chocolate martini was lackluster, tasted like chocolate milk instead of a martini. The Goose Island IPA was served in a cold glass, but the beer was flat. My girlfriend ordered a crab stuffed grouper but it wasn't very tasty, either. My other guests ordered the lasagna which was served in a metal dish that rocked on the plate it was served on, which made trying to cut it into pieces annoying. The lasagna was also under baked, flavorless, lacking...
