We've been to this theme park in the summer and had a great time. This was our first time in the off-season staying at Hotel Rome. We purchased this on a whim for my birthday using a Black Friday deal and wish we would have read the reviews prior to purchase because this was a terrible experience.
The only pros are that the room was clean and the hotel was decorated nicely for Christmas.
The rest of my review is unfortunately all cons.
Let's start with check-in and getting to the hotel itself. Check-in is a few miles away from hotel which we thought was very odd. Management is also in this building which means they aren't at the hotel. Because of construction, it's a bit of a maze to try and get into the parking lot. Also saw many cars driving down the pedestrian walkway. First sign of something off.
Now let's talk about the hotel and room.
First thing we noticed was a weird smell in the hallways. I can't really describe it but it wasn't pleasing. Luckily once we got into our room, the smell did not linger there. The room did not have enough lighting. Many of the lights weren't connected to a switch so you had to turn on most of the lights individually. Not the worst thing in the world but just wanted to point that out. The worst parts of the room were the beds, towels and noise level. The beds are extremely uncomfortable. You can feel every spring poking into your body. Pillows and sheets were OK. The bath towels felt like sandpaper. The walls are paper thin, which means you can hear everything in the hallway and in other rooms. Kids running around most of the night, yelling and stomping their feet. Where are the parents? Where's hotel management? Ah yes... they are in a different building.
Oh, and there's no coffee maker in room. You have to purchase at the café in the hotel lobby. $4 for a regular medium black coffee. Theme park prices, I guess?
"Included" with the room is the indoor water/theme park. I put included in quotations because when they advertise room rates, they don't include the extra cost for this, so when you check out, there's an added fee of $60 or something. I can't remember the exact amount, but my point is, it's not really included.
The indoor water park was a joke. 2 slides, lazy river, small pool and a warming pool. I thought the warming pool was going to be a hot tub, but it was indeed just "warm". Glad they are expanding because this was not what I would consider to be a "water park." The amount of chlorine they used was obnoxious. Our eyes and lungs were burning minutes after we walked into the water park area. Oh, and prepare to pay theme park prices. $12 a day to rent a small locker and $7.50 for a domestic beer.
The indoor theme park is really just 3 small rides for little kids, a mini golf area that was tiny, and games. I would have expected at least 1 roller coaster. Fun for small kids but not much to do if you're a teenager or adult.
All in all, this was a very poor experience. We ended up leaving early because we just couldn't handle another restless night. Stay somewhere else and during the summer so you can enjoy the outdoor theme and water park...
Read moreSo last year we came here and it was great we had a wonderful time, this year I have to share my disappointment we came up on May 22nd and left on the 26th. Wasn't crowded when we got here not that bad they have so-called assigned parking for buildings Lot 1 and 2 well when I came back on Saturday from the boardwalk I counted 30 cars that didn't belong in that parking spot and I want to go tell the front desk which they don't have a front desk they don't have a customer service desk anywhere in the hotel or on the resort I had to go stand in line to tell the ladies that was selling coffee in the lobby about it she told me to go tell the ticket people I went and told the ticket people and nothing was done I had to park all the way in the back by building four when my hotel room was in building one and then that same night me and my girlfriend were leaving our hotel room in a couple were fighting in the hallway and it looked like a domestic abuse disturbance because he grabbed her arm and she started screaming not one employee did anything I went and had to tell security which took about an hour for them to come down and when they finally did I was like yeah they're already in their room yelling at each other. I wouldn't exactly call this place the safest place are kids were trying to sleep every night and they had kids and adults screaming and running around the hallway and there's no security anywhere. Another thing I might add and this is the big one everything is so expensive now I bought three candy bars from the gift shop and paid $26 I could have went to Walmart and got a huge bag 426 bucks we bought our hoodies at Walmart I paid $20 for each of us to get a hoodie, in the gift shop they're $60 a piece. Everything is marked up the games in the arcade are complete scam and rip-off. $9 for a hot dog that tastes like crap, I recommend you don't eat any of the food don't buy anything at all go to other stores around the area I like the boardwalk and Shop there and buy your candy there do not I repeat do not buy anything at Mount Olympus Resort you're going to pay an arm and a leg for it when it's not worth it. And getting in and out of this place there's only two ways in and two ways out and it's...
Read moreIf you are thinking of booking a stay at Mt. Olympus please do not. It is not a place I'd want anyone I know or care about to stay. It's disgusting. There were actual roaches in our room. I saw the first one in the kitchen sink. It was really small and I killed it so I questioned if it were an actual roach or not. However my son, who has never seen an actual roach before, called me into his bathroom and sure enough there was a roach on the wall up by the ceiling. I've attached a photo of it. We ended up seeing 4 in total. Also, don't expect to have any kind of housekeeping in there while you are there. I was told they stopped during COVID by one of the housekeepers. They went on to say that they probably realized how much money they could save by not having housekeeping come in until after your stay was over. So if you stay 3 nights like us expect to have overflowing garbage cans and no beds being made etc. I also mentioned the roaches to the housekeeper who told me huh, I've only seen a few here. I was always told that if you see one that there are many. No offer to have someone come in and take a look or do anything about it. Try going to sleep at night in a room that you have seen multiple roaches in. Disgusting!!! Then coming home and worrying about your luggage carrying them. I will never be back here. I paid top dollar for a roach infested room. I was in the supposedly fancier Bluegreen building too. It was expensive even in the off season. We could hear people yelling and screaming in the hallways. There was drug use in the hallways. Kids loudly running up and down the halls at 11pm until 1am. Just a mess of a hotel. Check in is in a completely different building an 8 minute drive from the actual hotel. Staff was rude around the facility. Saying thank you to the staff usually received a blank stare back. As if they didn't know what being polite was. What an overall terrible experience this...
