It’s 30 hours after the combination massage that I had, and I am feeling sore and bruised on my upper arm. I am holding my young toddler constantly, so I would say I’m relatively active. When I came in for my massage I said I would like to feel relaxed, and also that I have some tight spots. I requested a therapist whose name I read on a highly rated review. I did not like my massage a lot of it - a lot of it was spent feeling squirmy and threatened from pain. I know I could have said so right at the beginning of discomfort, but I also believe a good massage therapist should communicate and ask how the pressure is for the client. And, a great massage therapist would be attuned to my body and my experience. It wasn’t until I asked for less pressure, that it started to turn into a relaxing massage. Stretching moves were pulled on me that didn’t feel safe. When she grabbed my shoulders to open them up, the grab felt so strong and hurt. That is where I’m feeling the pain now. I took a Thai massage course in Thailand, and the massages did not feel like this at all. Maybe because we were all learning in a peaceful environment. And at spas, people are overworked. Perhaps for the price of the massage, I ought to lower my expectations?? But I’ve also had massages in these environments that have been more positive experiences. So maybe I came at a bad time and perhaps my therapist was stressed and not having a good day. The room was clean. The receptionist was nice. The massage, being the main reason for my visit, was not.
Edit: 7 days after the massage and I still feel a painful bruised-like sensation in my upper arm. This is not normal. I will be more selective the next time I get a massage.
Edit: a month later and this sore spot still gets triggered. This person’s aggressive techniques did...
Read moreVery confusing experience. I went in for a Reflexology massage which was an upcharge for this type of treatment. The definition of Reflexology is: also known as zone therapy, is an alternative medical practice involving the application of pressure to specific points on the feet, ears, and hands. This is done using thumb, finger, and hand massage techniques WITHOUT the use of oil or lotion. However, I only got a deep tissue massage. After the massage I asked what happened to the Reflexology foot massage, and I was told they don’t do that. BUT, it was on the menu of services. So you pay $20 more for Reflex when they do not have a specialist that has formal training in this? Why is it available on the list then? Also, the deep tissue massage was just mediocre. The same technique applied throughout the 60 minutes. Lastly, their is a large gratuities suggestion in front of the payment desk. It says $20 the lowest suggestion to give. So if I get a $75 massage a 20% tip would be $15! I tip based on the service I’m receiving, not based on the suggested amount because the shop can’t afford to pay their employees more hourly. Offended. Now for the positive remarks: nice place, quiet, relaxing, nice people working. Overall, I would just get the cheapest massage available, because they are going to give you the exact same massage anyways. They do not distinguish for the different types and do not have formal training in the different styles. I may return,...
Read moreLeela Thai Massage is a solid choice for if you’re in LA and needing Thai Massage before traveling out on a long flight or for muscle tightness! It’s a clean facility with free parking lot parking or street parking all around.
Pro tip: definitely get a Thai massage before a flight - it’ll make your travel easier and less painful.
I literally came back twice two days in a row before I head out to a trip to Asia. Best decision of my life. I definitely feel rejuvenated. Please be communicative if you want lighter or harder pressure and what areas to focus on. If it’s your first time, legs are always painful but it’s genuinely worth it. Remember, this isn’t a Swedish Massage where you just relax, getting lightly rubbed on. This is a Thai Massage, which has real positive effects on your body. You’re going to feel discomfort due to your muscle tightness.
100% would recommend! Btw Leela can also be booked on ClassPass! Is couple friendly and they do have an atm on site to quite cash,...
