Was really saddened and truly hurt with the treatment I received during my last visit. I’ve been coming here since 2018 and Mikey is such a kind and “hands-on” owner, that I’m shocked his staff doesn’t emulate it.
I called in to the shop to see if my usual barber was there that day and if i could come within the hour and although he wasn’t, the gentleman on the phone assured me I could come in and I’d be taken care of.. sweet!!
I ride a Vespa and on that particularly scorching day, I rode the several miles to the shop. When i entered, there were new faces cutting hair and both them and the usuals all looked at me as if I was lost. Literally i could feel their eyes scanning me. Not one person greeted me or said hello. Not one asked if i had an appointment or was a walk in. I tried grabbing the attention of one and he ignored me and continued his conversation.
The part that really broke my heart and made me feel absolutely destroyed was one of the barbers quietly whispered in Spanish to the client, a comment about me being effeminate (cause of my side bag and boots im assuming) both of them not realizing i can understand basic conversational Spanish……they proceeded to laugh amongst themselves and after trying to swallow the shock and sitting unassisted for 15 more minutes, I quietly got up and left.
I know Mikey wouldn’t allow that behavior but I’ve heard from at least one barber that homophobia is rampant there and it’s a very stressful environment. Heartbreaking. For that reason alone, I’m out. Won’t be returning.
Hopefully Mikey will read this and understand the trauma this treatment can cause to someone. If he won’t update is payment methods, at least update the culture at his shop. Toxic masculinity has NO place in...
Read moreStumbled across this place on the way home from a horrible experience down the street at another shop. I had been looking for a good barber to do my 2 year old son's hair (which can be challenging, I get it) since we moved here earlier in the year. It's easy to find barbershops in the area, but it's difficult to find a good barber who ENJOYS his art and genuinely cares about the customer. We walked in before closing and were happily greeted by the owner and the other barbers. Humberto gave my son a cut straight out of a magazine; he truly exceeded my expectations in every single way. Patient, quick, talented, friendly, - I can't say enough about him or this place. Don't bother with any other shop- this is the one you're looking for. Quality guys, quality service. Humberto has a customer now for many...
Read moreI’ve been going to Mikey’s Barbershop for over 20 years, and it’s hands-down the best in the business. I usually get my cut with Mikey, but on the rare occasion he’s not available, I have no hesitation sitting with any of the other barbers. That’s because over the years, I’ve come to trust every single one of them. It’s clear that anyone who works here has been carefully vetted—not just for their skills with the clippers, but for their professionalism and customer service as well. Mikey sets a high standard, and it shows in the consistency, quality, and welcoming vibe every time I walk through the door. This shop is more than just a place to get a haircut—it’s a staple in the community....
