I worked at this hospital and my entire hospital stay was disastrous. Will not deliver here again. I pre registered for my induction provided my insurance twice through preregistration. I was scheduled for an induction at 3pm on a Sunday we arrived half hour early thinking we would get the paperwork anything extra out of the way. Also told if they were busy they would call us and tell us not to come in until later, we never got a call. We checked in and were sent to the waiting room for 45 mins and told a nurse would come get us. No one ever checked back in on us. We again went to the front desk and asked when we would go back they said about 15 more minutes we ended up waiting 2 and half hours. We didn’t get a room until 5:45pm. While in my room finally I’m getting text messages from registration asking for my insurance so I’m frantically typing in the insurance for a third time. And also was asked to email it as well, now a fourth time. The nurses could not get an IV for over an hour and as a registered nurse (with years of labor experience) once the foley balloon and Pitocin were going I had to call my nurse in to tell her the contractions are too close and my uterus was not relaxing between contractions which is very dangerous and her response was “we have to get the show on the road.” I got my epidural and was told by my nurse she would be back to put my Foley catheter in, in about 20 minutes. An hour went by and I again know as an experience labor nurse you need to put foleys in as soon as possible after epidurals so the bladder can empty. I was getting insane amounts of IV fluids and over an hour went by no one checked in or came to put my catheter in I had to call to the nurses station asking for someone to come put the catheter in. Any other patient who is not a nurse would not have known to call and could of went longer….or even worse ended up with a ruptured bladder from not emptying it. Not fast forward I’m 7cm I had family visiting and the insurance lady comes in the room asking for my insurance stating they do not have it….how is this possible I’ve provided it 4 times. So we again gave the insurance to the lady. Mind you my labor was only 7 hours total. We get transferred after baby is born to postpartum and the hearing screener comes in to do the hearing test and says “I see you are self pay and don’t have insurance” I could lose it at this point clearly there are issues with insurance people here. We asked our postpartum nurse for water and she said she would bring it, hours go by no one checks in and no water so we used the call light and got yelled at by a nurse who answered the call light stating “did you call your nurse with her phone number?” Excuse me the call light is for anyone to answer a patient care tech a nurse a secretary a unit manager anyone can bring a patient water and that’s the purpose of a call light to call when you need something. My baby needed light therapy as her bilirubin was elevated after birth and they checked her level as soon as she was done with light therapy and it decreased but there was no protocol to check it after that initial test. Which to me seems crazy. Most babies bilirubins increase back up, so sure enough that’s exactly what happened. We got discharged thinking we had a clean bill of health for our baby. Once we got home I noticed she seemed a little more yellow, and we watched with caution. Not even home for 24 hours and we were right back in the hospital with elevated bilirubin. This time we went to Williamson and got transferred by ambulance to Vanderbilt. They took amazing care of us. No insurance issues, no nurse issues they all were educated and understood the call light function, the nurses were timely and prompt, and continuously checking in on us. Now here we are 3 months later and I’m still getting calls from Ascension pediatrics and anesthesia with the incorrect insurance. Very very disappointing, and will never be...
Read moreI gave birth back at the beginning of June to a little girl. I am just now getting around to my review but I feel it’s important to highlight the wonderful women who got me through a long labor. I truly cannot thank Julie and Abby enough. Julie was with me first, her calm energy and superior communication was both refreshing and comforting. Abby came in after I had been laboring for hours and hours. She was the push I needed (literally) to get my baby girl here safely. She was the strength I needed to believe in myself and to keep going. Her energy and determination was infectious and encouraging. Things got a little scary for a second and I truly don’t know what I would’ve done without her expertise. She knew exactly what I needed and gave me her educated option and options without pressure. I know for a fact my baby girl couldn’t have made it here like she did without her. Abby, I don’t know your last name but what you did for me and my family will forever be cherished. You held me through my tears and fears, helped me not throw up LOL and held my hand through it all. Thank you for everything that you are. I will always hold a special place in my heart for you and I can’t thank you enough. You are a gift to the world. Keep spreading your light. It was a blessing to have you by my side bringing my baby into this world. You are so special and amazing at what you do!! St. Thomas and all of the patients that get to have you...
Read moreI was basically already giving birth when I got to the delivery room. I was able to endure the pain myself and was not being “helped” very long. I wish I had stayed home and done it there. This experience has led me to have an at-home birth with my next child now that I know I’m capable. The delivery staff were incredibly rude. I made a request outline which literally no one read but they encourage you to do one for some reason. The staff talked the whole time even when asked to stop. They tried to get me to lay on my back but thankfully my husband and sister were there to advocate for me or they probably would’ve forced me. Cherish, my delivery midwife kept making comments like “oh, it’s a big baby” when my baby was literally only 7 lbs. I’m not sure if these women have even had a natural birth experience themselves so they don’t empathize with the emotional support and needs for new mothers. This was my first child. I was shunned for wanting to go home the next day. The postpartum nurse was so rude and treated me as if I knew absolutely nothing about anything. I wish I knew her name but I was just ready to leave. This experience has led me to never want to experience birth here or even care here ever again. Look for a different birthing center or consider at-home! I hope this review helps someone else in their decision or at least the hospital improves. The staff need to be trained to be empathetic...
