Most importantly for me, COTC-D delivers biblical teachings that feed all stages of spiritual maturity, while challenging us to serve our community in ways that deliver meaningful results and tangible impacts.
COTC-D has an extraordinary variety of teaching pastors that skillfully share their diverse perspectives and personal experiences when interpreting the Scripture with integrity - "Truth & Spirit". The teachings are biblical, scholarly, engaging, and provocative . They help me re-examine my faith practice of following Jesus, and how I demonstrate it publicly and privately.
Yet, one of my favorite things about COTC-D are the efforts made to engage and connect people with each other in "Circle Time" and , "Without getting weird," (listen/share with respect) I grew up in a very small church as a Pastor's daughter, and COTC-D is the first large church that I've attended that consistently makes time for small group reflection after the sermons, asking:
1)!What stood out to you? 2)What are we going to do about it?
It is brief but powerful 5 minute chat that creates a space for everyone to be "seen and heard". I've learned a lot from the people seated next to me, during "Circle Time". And because I'm new to Nashville, it has also helped me make new authentic friendships and fellowships that edify and encourage me to LOVE IN ACTION (with everyone whether they share my faith or not), which is especially important in these current times of global crisis and in the face of all injustices.
Yet, I didn't give COTC-D a 5 star rating for being "perfect", for no church is perfect, but seeking to commune with God ( The Author of Perfection) in worship and study of the Scriptures.
COTC-D gets my 5 for being a SAFE place for an imperfect human being, like myself, to continue to authentically pursue of a better way to live, love, learn, and...
Read moreI am new to Nashville and was a little nervous the first Sunday I went alone to this church. But let me tell you I am so glad I did! The congregation is largely comprised of younger,(than me) people. But at 60, that is nothing new. The music was contemporary but respectful and not distracting as some worship bands are to me. The pastor taught from the Bible, and did an excellent job of making the message applicable to daily life. I was greeted warmly but not in an overly invasive way. The dress is casual but again, I felt it was respectful. I feel this body of believers is hitting every aspect of “church” well, as reflected in the New Testament church. There are also small groups that meet during the week if you want to have a more intimate experience In your life and the church ministers to the community in which it is located. If you are looking for a church in East Nashville, you could look a long time and not be as blessed as you will be going here. They also have multiple campuses in and around Nashville. Also, great...
Read moreFirst time attending this church, enjoyed the sermon. But, it was a Christmas service and the pastor referred to the Roman province of Judea as “Palestine” twice. Said that Jesus was born in “1st century Palestine”. This is not a historical controversy, it is simply a matter of record that Jesus was born in Judea and it wasn’t until the 2nd century that the Romans renamed the province “Palestine” shortly after a violent Jewish rebellion in Judea. I don’t know why he would pull that out...
