I'd give this place 10 stars if I could! My mom and I came into the store today (Monday June 12th) to exchange some antique money that we received from my great grandfather a few years back. We got there around 1:30 and we didn't end up leaving until about 4:00.
We had a lot of money to go through and it was just the one guy, Henry Wilson, working....AND he was having neck trouble. He had sorted out 100's of wheat pennies my mom had brought in and when he went to put them in the electronic counter, it jammed up! The poor guy had to count them all by hand. He just laughed about it and went about counting.
Anytime he had to count multiple bills/coins, he always did it right in front of us, so we knew he wasn't skipping over a single piece. He also kept track of every single type of currency we gave to him, by writing the currency year, amount and quantity. Then he would write the current monetary value for said currency right next to the other details.
He was very knowledgeable about every single coin/bill that we gave to him for exchange. If he wasn't sure about a piece, he'd pull out books and read through until he found a fair price. He even showed me that he was offering me more for a bill i was exchanging, than the book suggested, because he knew the book price was a little lower. I know he didn't try to cheat us out of money for the currency we brought in. If anything we had was damaged or not worth as much, he would show us or explain to us why it was worth less money. For example, one of my bills monetary value was $1.25, but he told me it wouldn't be worth anything because a previous owner/handler had written on it.
I didn't get to exchange all of the antique money that I brought in, because I didn't want to hold him up until after closing, but I know that when I do, I will be going back to this place HANDS DOWN. I know I am getting a very fair deal and the man we dealt with today was definitely the kind of expert that you need in a shop like that.
So whether you're out of town, out of state, out of country or have lived in the area your whole life, stop by this place for any of your currency questions or exchanges, or just stop in to check out the thousands of coins they have on display. They've also got civil war artifacts, foreign currency, jewelry and lots more!
UPDATE: After having exchanged my coins and being paid for them, I received a letter in the mail, stating that they actually owed me more money and to come back in. Upon my return, I came to find that the one sale paper had been misplaces that day I was in and it was found after I had left. They gave me a copy of the missing ticket and wrote me out a check for the money I should have gotten.
If it wouldn't have been for them contacting me, I honestly would not have even realized they owed me more. They could have easily kept that extra amount and not have even told me. I more than appreciate their honesty and the fact that they know they have a responsibility to their customers and truly uphold those standards. Now I wish I could give them a 20 star...
Read moreI don't leave negative reviews lightly so this pains me to write. I have been a loyal customer, probably have been here perhaps a dozen times, maybe more. I usually work with an elderly gentleman and sometimes a couple of girls who are probably in their 20's. They are a joy to work with which is why I ahve come back so often. However, this last time I was there, it was a brown haired gentleman who helped me. The tone was very different this time around. The previous times, 5/5 stars, easy. This past time, easily 0/5, but I don't want to discredit the niceness of the previous visits.
From the moment I walked in, I felt unwelcome. I felt as if I was bothering this gentleman. I asked to look at some items, and I was shown some coins however I felt judged by the fact that I felt that some of the items weren't in my price range. I'm no idiot, and I have been collecting coins for probably 35 years now, but the feeling I had was not a good one, for whatever reason. As I was looking at items, eyes never left me. I felt very uncomfortable while I was being watched sifting through the different coins. When I asked to see filler coins, it was explained to me that they will be less quality. Obviously that would be the case, there's really no need to have that mentioned. Affordability isn't an issue, but I wasn't looking for high end items to begin with. But as I looked at the lesser quality items, the eyes never left me. I started to feel pressured. It is an awkward feeling being watched as the gentleman never gave me just an inch of freedom to look at the coins or to discuss with my daughter, who is 9 and has an interest in the things I like. Eventually and unfortunately my daughter felt uncomfortable as well and stopped helping me. I asked her only after we left and she said the same thing, her vibe was the same as mine.
I have probably spent over a $1000 bucks here but it clearly felt like my money was no good. I have honestly never felt so bothered after going to a shop as I did this last visit. Whatever excitement I had, this one visit with this one gentleman who I suspect is the owner, ruined it. I apologize for looking for specific things, I apologize for not wanting the highest end items, I apologize for not being as knowledgeable, I apologize for wasting their time. I cannot bring myself to ever come back to this shop. Don't waste your time coming here. My money will be...
Read moreThis place was awful and by that I mean the man running the shop. He was so RUDE and pompous. I spent over $65 in there and then he charged me extra for using a debit card and told me he would charge me more if I used my credit card. Horrible service, rude, rip off and the guy was complete jerk to Paying customer. I should of never purchased what I bought and dropped it on the counter and told him forget it cause of what a rude pompous prick he was. I will never ever give them any of my buisness again or refer anyone unless you want to be treated bad by some arrogant shop owner....
