On 2/12/21 I placed an order for a couch. I was told that if I ordered "in the next 2 weeks, we expect delivery in May." After my purchase, I was told that I could expect an update to schedule delivery in "April/early May." It was a little more expensive than some other couches I'd been looking at, but I liked the style and the delivery timeframe was super reasonable so I went ahead with purchasing.
I heard nothing in April, and so 5/3 I reached out for an update. On 5/6 I had not received one, so I followed up again. The next day I received a brief response stating "we expect to receive and deliver your sofa in late June or July." I expressed my disappointment with this fact, as the shorter lead time compared to other sites I had considered was a primary reason I'd chosen to buy from Brooklyn Space, and I was given a vague answer claiming that "supply shortages and shipping delays are a worldwide problem at the moment."
On 7/1 I reached out again for a shipping update. I was informed the sofa, while now finally made, was "scheduled to arrive in New Jersey July 31," and then delivered the following week-- estimated delivery date now pushed to August, when I was meant to receive it in May.
At this point I asked where the sofa was shipping from. I did not receive a reply.
On 7/31, once again hearing nothing from Brooklyn Space, I reached out yet again. I was told my "sofa is scheduled to arrive around August 5-15. As soon as we have it, we will contact you to schedule delivery"-- yet another delay they did not bother to inform me about.
I still had heard nothing by 8/15 and so I reached out. I was told that the sofa had arrived in NJ but that they could not access it until the following week. I was given a guarantee that it would be delivered by 8/26. On 8/23 I reached out since I'd heard nothing, and was finally given a concrete window for delivery: 8/26 between 12 and 4pm.
In the afternoon on 8/25, I was informed there was yet another delay, this time due to a truck driver with COVID. Had the delivery not already been delayed nearly four months beyond its originally given date of delivery, I would be completely understanding-- however delay after delay completely eroded any trust that this was in fact true, or that I should believe any further estimates.
I still do not have a couch.
The site and advertisements for this company place a huge emphasis on how it is "local" in order to have a "lower carbon footprint," etc. -- my experience proves that it absolutely is not. These sofas are NOT made anywhere remotely near where they are sold in the showroom. Furthermore, the representative I spoke with used the excuse that "delays of global shipping" were not the company's fault (ignoring the fact that the company DOES choose which shippers and manufactures they wish to work/contact with and are at fault when a product is delayed to this degree). I don't know where the couches are made since they would not answer me, but if you're looking for a local business, don't choose this place.
You should absolutely not trust any estimates given to you by its representatives. Had I not been repeatedly told false shipment information, I would have canceled the order many months ago. Also worth noting-- at no point was I offered any sort of discount or even refunded shipping costs for this seven month wait.
The company is clearly expecting empathy dues to extenuating circumstances that they claim are beyond their control, but I can assure you that 1) many couches have been made and delivered by other companies over the past 7 months and 2) customer service is sadly lacking: not once did they contact me when they said they would, I always had to reach out for information. The company has, at every instance, refused to take accountability for the fact that the delivery time has now been more than double what I was told at time of purchase. Really disappointed in the entire experience. No couch, not matter the style or value, is worth all...
Read moreTLDR: Purchased the velvet grey introspect in May 2020. Color is great. Does well with pet hair. Overall cheaply made, overpriced sofa. Back and seat pillows not reversible. Sale/discounted items not covered by 100 day trial.
I purchased Brooklyn Space’s Introspect in grey May 2020 in an effort to support a small business over one of the larger furniture retailers. I feel good about that decision in principle but am completely dissatisfied with the purchase and find myself in the market for a new sofa just a few very short months later.
Pros: The color is very nice and has done well with my dog’s hair just fine, which was an initial concern with a velvet sofa. The hair comes off with a quick wipe. The process was easy to order and convenient to schedule delivery.
Cons: At first, the couch looked GREAT in the room. Again, the color is nice. However, as soon as I sat on it, I could feel how cheaply made the pillows are. They feel like like they should be firm but actually sink in quite a bit, and start to sag in the middle. This is one of my biggest issues with the couch, is it looks old and worn, not firm and new.
For a few weeks, I was frustrated because it seemed none of the pillows came off to be fluffed (which begs the question, why do new couch pillows need to be fluffed so quickly after purchase) BUT it turns out, they were all stuck to the couch using some strategically placed, really strong velcro strips. My main issue is that the back and seat pillows are NOT reversible. This is a key detail that is left off of promotional material. Had I known this, I would not have purchased from Brooklyn Space.
The arm pillows are too hard and not at all comfortable to lay on. The couch comes with a center support leg (similar to what you would find on a bed). That leg is plastic and weak. The one that came with my sofa didn’t last a week.
Note: I purchased a discounted floor model and missed that it was excluded from their 100 day trial. It’s my fault for not reading more clearly. However, I DID speak with David over the phone about the couch before I purchased it and believe he should’ve highlighted then. The website only includes positive reviews. It’s now clear that Brooklyn Space is very selective about the...
Read moreI needed a sofa and wanted to try something local. Found out about Brooklyn Space from a friend. I ordered my sofa on Monday night and it was delivered on Thursday in NYC. One of the legs got scraped in delivery so they sent somebody to replace the leg. Excellent customer service all around.
The buttons on my tufted sofa are a little loose so clothing gets caught on them. Brooklyn Space sent a repair man to tighten the buttons, however the repair man recommended not tightening them because it would look weird with the fabric. If you are considering a tufted sofa, I would recommend visiting the showroom first to confirm it's not a broader issue with their tufted products (unfortunately the show room was closed when I ordered). My friend has a non-tufted sofa and had no issues.
Overall, I love my new sofa and I'm happy that I found out about Brooklyn Space.
UPDATE 1 year in: the frame snapped when 4 people sat on the sofa. Brooklyn space immediately sent a repair person and now the problem is solved. Thanks again Carla for the fantastic...
