The coffee is delicious. Staff could be friendlier but what can you expect when they probably only get paid in tips. Otherwise, how do you justify asking for 40% tip?
Edit post owner's reply: Clearly the owner is oblivious to the not-so-subtle message here. Put more explicitly: the staff is not friendly. The many times I have been to the location, they lack the hospitality I expect when ordering more than just coffee that I am used to in many other places. After wondering why they were so rude to me and the other customers in line, all I could think was that it was due to a low salary due to the high tip suggestion. But after seeing the owner distastefully disagreeing with opinions about hight tipping requests, that are very common around the world -- simply ask around, perhpas they are upset about having bad management too. A reply to this edit would just confirm my hypothesis. Perhaps the business is hurt more by leadership blaming failure on a single mediocre review than looking for improvement...

There was nobody in line and only one person waiting for their order.... 3 people behind the counter were very busy fighting with each other... This is the first time out of any coffee shop in New York where you get charged for having no ice in your iced drink. It literally costs pennies to put another ounce or 2 of coffee, for an already 5.25$ drink. What I do with the coffee i buy is my business, I can share it with 3 other people if I want. its my choice. I already pay you, but to charge me extra for having no ice in my drink, is simply cheap and petty. You'd rather lose a customer, its very narrow-minded, and now costing you a review....
