Ferry NY Waterway — Local services in New York

"The World's Best Ferry!" It is certainly not, far from it. When considering its performance, there are only two aspects that could be considered remotely positive: its ability to stay afloat and its relatively punctual schedule.

However, the negatives overwhelmingly overshadow any positive elements.

To begin with, the buses that operate alongside the ferry are infrequent and in dismal condition, showing clear signs of age and wear. Then the lack of customer guidance is particularly striking, leaving passengers feeling confused and lost. Adding to the frustration, the monitors at the terminal frequently malfunction, and there is a conspicuous absence of any indication of the ferry's destination on the ferry itself. Furthermore, the complete lack of real-time customer information, such as updates on the next stop or connections, further illustrates the service's disregard for passenger needs. Additionally, it is inconvenient that many ferry docks do not sell tickets, and purchasing tickets on board is not an option either.

Moreover, the uncomfortable metal seats and the outdated appearance of the boats are highly disappointing. It is disconcerting that at a time when numerous ferry services across the globe have shifted to electric-powered vessels to reduce pollution, these outdated ferries continue to emit visible black pollutants.

Above all, the exorbitant cost of the ferry service is unjustifiable given the subpar quality and the short distances of the journey. Paying $9 for a mere 7-minute ferry ride, while a 20-minute subway ride costs only $2.75, is outrageously expensive. This glaring disparity emphasizes the lack of value provided by the ferry service. Overall, the experience falls significantly short of the expectations one would have for a service in the 21st century. It is both ignorant and inaccurate for the ferry service to label itself as "The World's Best Ferry!" considering the multitude of flaws and deficiencies...

I go to New York at least once a month, and have been going for many years to see Broadway shows, but never took the ferry before. I wish them would have told me I should check out this mode of transportation years ago, because it was so simple to do and so much fun!!! To drive to weehawken was easy and straightforward. The parking garage is directly across from where you board the ferry. There's kiosks to get tickets when you walk in or you can buy them on your phone. The fairies run exactly on time and it only took us about 10 minutes to get into Manhattan. Once you get off the boat you can get on a shuttle bus that takes you right to 42nd and 8th Street in times square where you can walk around or across the subway which is what we do. Getting back was just as easy. A yellow bus will pick you up from the same spot just across the street and take you directly back to the ferry,... Or if you're like us and miss the bus, you can take a short 20 minute walk from midtown to the ferry station which was great because it was an absolutely beautiful day in New York. Again, the fairy was on time. The ride was about 10 minutes and you get off and walk across the street to your car. Super cool way to get to New York. Although there has been much debate about which is cheaper, the gas tools in parking or the train ticket gets...lol either way, you should check this out at least once because arriving to New York by ferry is...

ferry itself is fast for sure. however, people who work for the ferry can be confused with what NY Waterways wanted to do n I don't knwo whose fault is. For example, this year or may be last year, they started the Ferry n Bus combo thing which is great. I live in an area I can do either bus or ferry. ferry is faster but it's very costly. if you do ferry plus parking, you are talking about $23 each way or $32 round trip vs bus ride is about $3ish one way or $7 round trip. Anyway, I do the ferry n bus combo. so when I get on the ferry, the conductor would take my tix entirely, and if you tell him you need the tix to show the bus driver when you take the bus, NJ transit 158 for me, he would say that you don't need to show them the ferry tix....they , the bus drivers, should have already known if you are taking a ferry, the ride for the bus is free. Well I wish! when I get on the 158 bus at the port imperial, not all bus drivers know what's going on. most of the times I am ok but I do have to pay extra when I run into a couple bus drivers who do not have an idea of what's going on...very annoying as I had to argue with one bus driver as he would not let me ride the bus. I don't mind pay for the bus comparing with the parking I am saving a lot, but don't try to lure me if you are not going to deliver what you say you will do. I am only a customer, so don't make my life...
