I recently booked a treatment at Spa 56 through Groupon, and unfortunately, my experience did not live up to expectations. First off, I was surprised to find that they charged extra sales tax on top of my Groupon price…

Upon arrival, there was a noticeable lack of hospitality. I wasn't offered access to the bathroom, nor any water or tea—basic amenities that are typically provided at most spas. The 70-minute scrub treatment I booked was cut short to about 60 minutes, and there was no explanation or communication about what was being done during the process. It would have been nice if they explained the products they were using or at least let me know what to expect throughout the treatment.

After the scrub, I took a shower, but there was no moisturizing offered, which is essential after such treatments. In fact, I was left feeling dry and unhydrated, and there was no offer of hydration or any other follow-up services.

Although I tipped, I left feeling like the experience didn’t warrant such a gratuity. In hindsight, I should have tipped less given the lack of hospitality, communication, and overall service quality. Overall, this visit was disappointing, and I would not recommend Spa 56 based on...

The massage I received was fantastic and very professional. I didn’t ask for the name of the masseuse but she worked wonders with her feet and did a great job. I would have gladly left a 5 star review solely based on that. But..

When I came to pay the 75 dollar bill, I handed the owner a 100 and I asked for 10 back and to give 15 to the masseuse. She rudely answered “75 for me 25 for her” I said “no, give 10 back” to which she started to go into a loop of trying to convince me to leave more, she then tried to peak into my wallet and said “common, you have more, you are man, you leave higher tip” and I found the rude owner haggling me about the tip money.

I eventually told her to give 5 back and she said she doesn’t have change to just leave it all…I told her no and she pulled out 5 dollars and I was out the door.

Such a shame that the owner feels like this is acceptable behavior to do with anyone, it was very unprofessional and rude. Still gave 2 stars because the massage was very good but I wouldn’t give hand to a business that...

Mixed feelings. I'm a repeat customer and the first time around, the massage was very nice, professional and courteous. I left feeling refreshed and calm.

The second time was a whole different story. I showed up for a 1h session and the massage was bad - so bad I asked the masseuse to stop and redirect her attention to work exclusively on my feet. Half of the body massage was done with a sheet between me and the masseuse's hands, and the other half was done very poorly with insufficient oil. The technique was poor. It was unpleasant.

To round things off, when I went to pay, the first thing they asked me was whether it was my first time there. They then charged me USD$ 100, plus tax and tip. This was not the price I paid the first time.
