My husband and i have been searching for a couch for quite a few months and had trouble finding something that we both love. (He is very into modern and practical and I love the vintage look). After reading multiple amazing reviews on this place I decided to check it out while my husband was out of town. Little did I know I would be spending the next hour and a half with Benny discussing what I thought would be a good “compromise” of what both my husband and I were looking for.

With just a few guidelines I feel like Benny knew EXACTLY what I wanted and was able to envision my style even more than I could. He let me come up with my own decisions and conclusions by guiding me in the right direction, but never feet over powering. Lets just say this man has quite the taste and talent. As much as I wanted to pull the trigger right then and there I knew what a big statement piece it was and wanted my husband to feel like a part of the decision. That being said, Benny was so confident in his product, I never felt pressured to purchase something immediately and he even told me to take my time and come back with my husband when we were ready and could come together. It has been the best feeling I have had making such a large purchase and already could not wait to come back. He was not only beyond knowledgable and kind, but also, patient and never made me feel rushed during the very long time I ended up spending in the store.

Fast forward to a day ago, where I went back to the store again, but this time with my husband. Miraculously, we both agreed on every little detail we wanted for our sofa. (This never happens!) I realized that this is because not only can you tailor the height of the couch, depth of the couch, legs, stitching, fabric and or leather to make it exactly what YOU want! Benny once again listening to everything we wanted and even made us look at the color of leather in multiple different types of lighting to allow us to feel 100% confident in what we were buying. He gave us gentle recommendations on what would look best but again really left the ball on our court. This is something that takes innate talent and is far and few between.

All in all, I can confidently say that Benny is beyond the best stylist, sales man and person I have ever been fortunate enough to work with. He keeps it classy, honest, and is so genuine. I cannot speak highly enough of him and am looking forward to seeing our new statement piece and making more purchases...

Imagine being invited to go shopping by a friend who was just diagnosed for a knee replacement. Picture yourself hopping onto the 1 California in the Financial District and riding all the way to Fillmore where you exit the 1 and cross the street to wait for the 22 which will deliver you right to Union Street to a little "hole in the wall" retail showroom that specializes in custom sofas. I mean what can possibly be more fun than that. Really? And then the unexpected happens, or really unfolds over the next half hour. You notice the one representative, or sales person who's all the way in the back of the store, standing in an open office. He greets you. We start to walk around the store and notice a very good collection of sofas with different styles and fabrics. We sit in a couple. We move to the back of the store, next to the office and notice a beautiful sofa. The representative engages us in conversation. We learn that he owns the company, that he runs the manufacturing facility where the sofas are built and that he's in the Union Street store today, just to see how things are going. We learn more about sofas, fabrics and more than we could have possibly learned from an annual subscription to Martha Stewart. Being there as a guest, I came away appreciating that we're all different, as in built a little different in terms of height, weight and taste. I didn't sit on every sofa, but I was surprised to learn that I actually preferred some sofa designs over others. Some were just more comfortable for me. They were all beautiful. The product knowledge was there. The experience was there. We were helped and left the store feeling both excited and educated. If you know what you want, they can build it to your precise specifications. Before they ship it to you, they send you an email with a variety of photos of your sofa. You see it before it ships. We had a great time and boy do we have a home for a "Sofa U Love"...

I received my very first sectional from Sofa U Love this morning, and I couldn't be happier. Not only was it delivered two days earlier than originally expected, but it's a beautiful, substantial, very well made piece of furniture. I have owned a lot of high-end couches and had been extremely frustrated with my last RH Modern couch when the seat cushion collapsed in less than two years, so I decided to take a chance on doing a fully custom order. I was thrilled to find out that Sofa U Love (which makes their couches in California, no less) provides a 10-year-guarantee on their cushions and a lifetime warranty on the frame of the couch. I've never seen another furniture company offer such a robust warranty on their product and I was excited to be able to buy a couch made in the USA, so I felt like I was in good hands.

Sofa U Love can make practically anything, so the number of options can be overwhelming. But I worked with their in-house designer, Sarah, to create a low, modern, slightly formal 9' sectional that's just right for me. We modified one of their basic styles by raising the height of the back for better support, adding piping for structure, and making the arms lower and more narrow to maximize seating area. We made the cushions extra firm, customized the depth of the chaise, added custom brass feet, and did all of this using a rich, durable, midnight blue velvet that happens to be one of their Grade A(cheapest tier) fabrics. Now I have a beautiful couch with seat cushions that have the bounce of a good mattress and back cushions that feel like they'll never sag. The velvet is even softer than I expected, the delivery guys were on time, very professional, and were in and out in under 15 minutes. And all of it cost far less than trying to buy an in-stock couch of similar size from Room & Board or Crate & Barrel. I cannot recommend them...
