I hate leaving 'meh" reviews - especially at this time when things couldn't be much more difficult for small businesses generally - but restaurants specifically - but in this case I think that it's important that I do. I'm going to be fair though. We took a day trip To Harrison lake and researched the lunch spots ahead of time, settling on Muddy waters cafe - which has earned generally great reviews. Lovely spot, lovely views, lovely staff, nice and clean, and a very appealing lunch menu - all very good so far. My wife and I ordered a beef burger each with 'chips' rather than salad. That was our first mistake. Overall the meal was nicely presented, reasonably generous and made of fresh, local ingredients. Our big urk here was that the slab of cheddar (and I mean SLAB) was refrigerator cold and just sat on top of the barely warmed beef patty - it would have taken so little effort to have shown it a little love from the broiler and heated it through - few burger lovers enjoy hitting a cold brick of cheese at first bite. We were not given the opportunity to have the kitchen rectify the situation as the last we saw of our wait staff was when the meal was put in front of us. What really prompted me to write this though, was that we wrongly assumed that "chips" hopefully meant of the hand cut, deep fried variety that is customary with an $19 burger. The chips that were served were literally a handful of Miss Vickies - straight from the bag - truly not good enough. The total bill for the two burgers came to $44. It would be soooo easy to get this right, and at the prices charged there are simply no excuses. We are not in a hurry to eat here again - there are plenty of other choices...
Read moreThis the best Cafe type place we have been to in a long time. Family of 4 stopped here. The patio is awesome with shade and the view. It was a great place to spent the morning. I like that the breakfast menu is concise and that what they do offer they do really well. The staff were nice and polite and were patient in dealing with our kids when they ordered. The breakfast wrap and breakfast plate we had were really good, I went for potatoes as a side and wife went with fruit and I should have went fruit as it was a pile of fresh fruit. I thought I was just going to get a slice of watermelon or something. The iced coffee was really good. The Chai latte was really good. A couple of us are gluten free and the gluten free brownie was soooooooo good, like the best gluten free brownie I've ever had. Our one kid who never eats gluten free stuff went in an got a brownie after trying a taste of ours. Then we went back in to get two more for the road and they were all gone. About an hour later, while the kids played at the beach, we went back for a coffee and Chai and they were really good. Next time we are in Harrison this is where we are going for breakfast...
Read moreBetter late than never! My wife and I were in Harrison last fall and phoned the cafe to see if they could accomodate celiacs (gluten free) and what they offered. They had a wide range of options but when I asked how they toasted their bread they were just using the same toaster as was used for all the breads. When I explained to them that those with gluten allergies would become sick from the cross contamination using this method they were quite concerned and asked what remedy they could take to correct this. I explain that by simply investing in an inexpensie toaster dedicated to gluten free breads and buns all would be well. Two days later when we went there for breakfast they had purchased a new toaster for those with gluten allergies. Now thats what I call someone with a sincere concern for their customers and a willingness to imediately do something about it. Thank you Muddy Waters...
