It’s a real bummer. We frequently visit whistler and have always wanted to try out this place. There are also nice service staff there except that we had a really really bad experience this afternoon. I would give 10 1 star reviews if I can.
The front service staff wanted to sit us comfortably in seperate tables but after some of us sat down. A second service staff says that not possible, because they would need another service staff and would have issues with tips? After which they tried to squeeze us all 11 people in a 8 people table. After we said that’s not posssible, they try to seat us at another location but it was still abit too tight. We mention a few times that we are okay sitting separately. I don’t understand why that is so difficult. If we entered the restaurant as seperate groups, we would all be seated comfortably.
The weather was rainy and wet and we had young kids, I hope you feel good about yourself as we had 2 kids crying right after.
The First Lady was happy to sit us seperate and last service staff apologized but seriously I hope the 2nd lady was more compassionate when sitting people down. Very very unfortunate experience.
Reply to owner: thank you for taking time to review the footage and the situation. I really appreciate it. We have no reason to lie to you, but the server insisted we sit together. We check with our group and none of us requested to sit together. We also told the server multiple times we are okay to sit separately. We even told the lady at the front before we got our table that we are okay sitting separately. The 2nd server said something about tips and need us to sit together. She also wasn’t the most friendly. We even mention to her we are happy to pay separately on diffrent bills. I personally wouldn’t keep her hired if I were running...
Read moreI visited today and waited in line. When it was my turn, I asked if all tables had fireplaces, or if I could be seated near one. The host asked how many were in my party. I replied “just me for now,” as I was waiting for friends returning from a hike. The host told me they were only seating parties of four or more at that time. I asked if it was for the entire pub and he confirmed yes.
I asked if that meant I couldn’t sit alone for a bite and a drink, and he said no, unless I committed to a minimum spend, which he didn’t specify. I mentioned it would be helpful to indicate that policy on the chalkboard sign to avoid people waiting unnecessarily.
I stepped aside, only to watch the couple behind me (a party of two) be seated immediately. The host made no mention of the four-person rule or any minimum spend to them. He didn't know them personally either from how he addressed them. I couldn’t help but feel the difference in treatment was racially motivated. The couple was white. I am not.
I called the pub right away and while I was listened to ...the manager tried to make it seem like a misunderstanding. I can appreciate that as she wasn't there, but it wasn't a misunderstanding. The host was definitely screening people through.
I walked away feeling embarrassed and deeply hurt. I didn't expect this in a place like Whistler, everyone is so...

While visiting Whistler with my girlfriends—many of whom were experiencing it for the first time—we decided to try Black’s Pub based on its inviting ambiance and prime location overlooking the mountain. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations.
From the start, the service was extremely slow. After placing our food order, our server disappeared and didn’t check on us for 30-40 minutes. Worse, our food took over an hour to arrive, despite the restaurant not being particularly busy (it was a Tuesday after a long weekend). We arrived at 12:30 PM and didn’t leave until 2:15 PM, which is far too long for a casual meal.
When the food finally arrived, it was just average—definitely not worth the long wait. Pizza was cold and burger was not cold but not hot. On top of that, the music was too loud, making it difficult to enjoy a conversation.
With so many great dining options in Whistler, I wouldn’t recommend Black’s Pub based on this experience. The location and ambiance have potential, but the poor service, long wait times, and underwhelming food left us...
