We encountered several tricks and traps at this restaurant.
We’ve been traveling in the Czech Republic for a while and have tried various cuisines and restaurants. The practices of this restaurant are a disgrace to the Czech food industry.
The main dishes do not include any side dishes, and the final price after adding sides is extremely high compared to regular restaurants in the Czech Republic.
My main dish was a mix grill. As shown in the photo, the texture of the meat didn’t taste grilled at all—it seemed boiled, and overcooked at that, then simply topped with some sauce before being served. The meat was so tough that even a serrated knife had trouble cutting through it.
When we entered and ordered, the waiter didn’t inform us that they only accept cash, nor did he mention the exchange rate between Czech crowns and euros. When it came time to pay, he suddenly told us they only accept cash and pointed to a notice behind the door. As shown in the photo, they placed a very small sign about cash-only policy in a spot behind the wide-open door. This was the first time in over a week of traveling in the Czech Republic that we encountered a business that did not accept cards.
Their bill reveals why they only take cash—they profit off the exchange rate. As shown in the photo, the bill was 1516 CZK, but they charged us 65.9 EUR, using an exchange rate of 23. Recently, the actual exchange rate between euros and Czech crowns has been around 25, which is also what most Czech businesses use. That means they made an extra 5.26 EUR off this one meal.
We ordered four main dishes in total, and all of them tasted bad. The restaurant next door was packed inside and out, while this place had only two or three tables occupied when we arrived. Now we understand why.
Only honest business practices can earn a good reputation. There are many great restaurants in Český Krumlov—this is clearly not...
Read moreThe food was very average, nothing special. But the real problem came when it was time to pay. They suddenly told us that card payment was not possible, even though this was never mentioned when we sat down. Only after insisting did we notice a tiny, almost hidden sign at the entrance saying “cash only.”
We were told we could pay in euros instead — but they used a terrible exchange rate, about 10% higher than the normal rate in Czech crowns. This is a dishonest and tourist-targeted practice clearly designed to make extra money from visitors.
If you come here, be very careful: check for the “cash only” sign and avoid paying in euros at all costs. This kind of behavior gives a very bad impression of an otherwise...
Read moreNice place, very relaxing and good food. We decided to sit here after couple hours sight seeing and looking for restaurant by the river, which almost all are full, since the day is warm. And we glad we choose it.
The food is good, the meat is tender and juicy, it's tasty and fresh. We order rosenberg devil plate, krumlov plate (speciality), mix salat n homemade raspberry limonade. All is good and the ambience is relaxing.
Yes they warn us since beginning that they only take cash as payment, and paying in euro is possible, so it's not a big problem. We pay in euro as it stated in the bill. We leave with a happy tummy.
No parking lot, since this is in the middle of...
