my worst ever restaurant experience, by far, and I have so few bad restaurant experience. I think this evaluation system is problematic, i wish i had zero star option.
First of all, I have to underline that my dissatisfaction is not at all on the price issue. We have left to the stuff probably the highest tips they have ever seen in their lives upon leaving the place.
we travel often and usually to very touristic cities. we do not hesitate to spend money on our meals and I am used to make an investigation beforehand to not have a bad experience, since we have difficult family members. On the other hand, neither myself nor my spouse are at all difficult customers for restauration. Therefore I say fullheartedly that I visited so far - with my family - so many Kosher restaurants around the world without any bad experience and most of them were really on the highest end in terms of price.
this restaurant is in a very touristic place, there is a seductive entrance, seeing the kosher certificates i thought it would not be an touristic harnack. I was totally wrong and I should have trusted my gut feeling.
the moment i saw the restaurant, i was impressed and i wanted to make a reservation in person for the next evening. the person who talked to me did not even take note of my name, made me repeat my name several times, in the middle of the street, without even inviting me inside, on a very warm and sunny day. Inside the restaurant was empty at that moment, I thought it was because they have guests rather for evening service.
Finally I was convinced that she would not really take notice of my effort to make a reservation; i searched online for comments on the place, they were all positive, so I was still convinced and called them back by telephone from our hotel and made a reservation for four, two days before the day we wanted to eat there. I checked their menu online since we have a person allergic to many ingredients, so that we could already decide what we would like to eat before going there.
When we arrived at the restaurant it was empty and we were the only customers. The stuff gave us a menu in English printed on an a4, black on white, which was totally different than the one I studied online. We still kept our empathy with the stuff and did not want to waste our evening discussing so made our choices: Fish and chips (why would anyone eat fish and chips in Prague?), Chicken schnitzel (same inner voice, same question), chicken paprika (hungarian dish but okay why not), grilled Salmon with rice as a side dish... with some beers...
and fish&chips, schnitzel and salmon were congeleted, especially the salmon was like gone. all in all all the food we ordered and payed for, we could have done better at an airbnb kitchen with a grocery shop visit. the rice was a pudding. chicken paprika was a salty raw comedy.
the stuff were trying to make up for the emptiness of everything in that place, but i still got the question: "oh why wouldn't you like them? what was the problem with the food?"
On top of all, the addition was the biggest of all our restaurant visits during our 1 week Prague holiday. I am sure this will turn back to you in the good sense. The story for us is always as follows: we go into a place, we feel welcome and other people flow inside that place. There, on the contrary, we left your place with sad souls and will never visit again.
maybe you make an effort only for bigger tourist groupes or i do not know what/how you got those misguiding positve evaluations. but we did not feel welcome at all. We felt striped. I ate raw chicken! Never again.
what was wrong? everything... and I am sure that we are not...
Read moreWe heard so much about this place, and right on the door they advertise that Michelle Obama, Benjamin Netanyahu, Harvey Keitel has eaten here. Well if you are not famous it is very hard to get any service here. My mother and I stopped for a late light lunch. They sat us in the front of the restaurant which was totally empty aside from one other table. The back of the restaurant was full. After we sat down we waited for about 8-10 minutes until I finally got up and grabbed a menu from another table and checked with our waitress whether it was the correct one. She confirmed it was. The couple at the next table actually came and gave us their menus which had the drink menu included. We should have known how this go from then on. We ordered two different soups and two appetizers. Then we waited for about 40 minutes. They were very focused on setting the tables around us for the dinner service. The main waiter explained that our waitress was new and normally he would help her but there was a table of 10 in the back that him and the 2 owners were focussed on and that he was sorry. Then he set the table next to us with 2 wine glasses. Our waitress who had finally come to take our order was very nice but unfamiliar with the menu, also apologized that she was new (which is fine) but after taking our order disappeared. I actually had to finally ask if our soups were coming after we had been waiting so long. I mean it's soup! I am sure they are not making a bowl of soup from scratch in the back. I finally cancelled our appetizer order. Lots more people came to apologize (the owner I think?) So sad and incompetent service. Our tiny bowl of soup, no bread, after being there for an hour and a half was 330 CZK. A pricey and long lunch for two small bowls of soup. Very disappointed. If you are not Michelle Obama, don't bother coming here. So much good food in Prague. I am sorry but one table of 10 should not keep us from getting soup faster. Less focus on apologizing and setting all the tables around us for dinner service which will not happen for another 2 hours would have made more sense and focussing on getting us our food would have been less energy and made more sense. Or just tell us you are closed if you cannot handle it. ...
Read moreI insist this review does not get deleted as the one I have left before. It addresses the same issue that a previous commenter already complained about. — unfairly high wine prices hidden by waiters.
When I asked for a wine card the waiter said they dont have one. And he recommended a glass of Israely wine.
The glass (as discovered later) was priced 10 usd (which may be ok) while the bottle he showed (i looked it up) was only 12 USD. (Not ok!)
When I asked If this is correct he said — yes.
I paid the price. But the aftertaste is NOT good. And I dont like that my previous (more diplomatic) review was deleted. On what grounds?!
I feel that I was ripped off by the waiter who did not bring the wine card. Why can I not comment on this?! especially that other commenters also mentioned this.
Otherwise it is a nice pricey place in Prague with fair food. We had soups and cut marinated herring. Which was nothing...
