Terrible experience. We ordered a pulpo alla gallega. They served few tiny pieces of octopus which looked like taken from a tin can five days ago and left on a shelf of the fridge exposed to air for five day: they were totally dry. Oh, and of course there was not paprika dressing, just few drops of oil. So, you can't even call it pulpo alla gallega. In fact, the only culinary skill used in that plate was "boiling potatoes". Next we asked for tapas of seafood: OMG! The calamari were frozen. Not just the calamari itself. They use calamari rings frozen directly with the batter on it! They take two of these calamari rings from a huge bag in the refrigerator, they put them in a fryer and Bob's your uncle. Moreover, it was clear that they did not fry them right before serving. The batter was falling apart, the calamari ring inside was withered. Probably they fried them hours before for the lunch service and the served them in the evening. Otherwise you can't explain why they looked that withered. The shrimps had seen better days (and better color...) Even if you go to a supermarket you can find fresh shrimps everyday. Let alone if, as a restaurant, you get supplies from seafood quality suppliers. Out of two mussels one was so overcooked... Small quantities and low quality: even in any school canteen you can eat much better food (and especially fresher food). And those plates costed the equivalent of 15 Euro EACH. Next time I...
Read moreThe restuarant itself is in very nice area, very much in the city centre. We entered from (what I believe is) the rear entrance, which was quite hidden and looked a bit scary. Behind the door there was the part for smokers. I actually did not like the look of it there, but the non-smoking part of the restaurant was much nicer. The service was really great and fast and we had a good talk to the Spanish lady who speaks Spanish as well as English and a little bit of Czech. For the food we just had the Spanish Tortilla, which I had never tasted before - I discovered it is really something totally different from Tortilla as I know it from (I believe) Mexican kitchen. It was quite good, I think, but I do not considered myselfas an expert on the Spanish culture niether on the kitchen. I would surely recommend to try it, but use the front entrance to the restaurant which gives much better first...
Read moreWe currently live in southern Italy where it is very hard to find Mexican or Spanish cuisines and finding a jalapeño is impossible. We were so excited to find some! ElCentro was warm, welcoming, and most importantly, delicious! The staff was incredibly friendly! The sign outside mentioned their paelle and my husband was stoked! There was a HUGE variety of seafood in the paelle: mussles, clams, octopus, squid, and shrimp! And lots of each! The rice was cooked perfectly and was very flavourful. We also had an order of empanadas for an appetizer which were hot and delicious and clearly freshly made. We felt welcomed to sit and enjoy our meal for well over two hours without the pressure to leave or order more. The family was so fun to talk to and really helped...
